I think they were both in the band throughout most of 1972...Blondie joining near the beginning of the year, and Daryl (and Toni) leaving before the end.

Mike Love named him Captain due to his fondness for yacht hats. I always hated "Muskrat Love."

My Mum used to play their 70's records a lot when i was a kid, i can remember the words of a bunch of the songs, child indoctrination, thankfully Dad played the Stones, Kinks, Manfred Mann.

RIP seemed like a good life———

I met him, on a cruise, probably about 25 years ago. He wasn't performing but Tennille was (she put on a very enjoyable show!). Saw him at the bar by himself and had a quick 2 min chat w/ him, he was extremely nice. RIP!

He did some great stuff with Dennis Wilson

Why would you call yourself "Captain" when your name is DARYL @#$%& DRAGON??

Dragon and Tennille doesn't have the same ring to it, doesn't reflect their sappy music (it sounds closer to metal lol), and might have scared off some of the teeny boppers...

Never knew that, and that has to be one of the most obscure trivial facts I've ever heard!
Speaking of Neil Sedaka and trivia - never knew Elton sang on this hit until recently!

The original version (titled Muskrat Candlelight) by Willis Alan Ramsey is really very sweet. I had this stuck in my head for three days after the first time I heard it.

Hated "Love Will Keep Us Together" when it came out...but have to come to appreciate Daryl's and Toni's musicianship on this Midnight Special live version.

It's just them and Hal Blaine (same lineup as on the record):

As for "Bad Blood," it was all over the radio...Elton was everywhere back then.

I loved the Captain! Captain and Tennille had some fantastic pop moments that only people from the 70s would appreciate. God rest his soul, I sure loved him. He was the anti-Baudelaire in some ways....he was the girl in the poem "A Celle qui est trop gaie". Finally, nature punished on a flower the insolence of nature.
