Sacrilege - it's as if they ripped the heart and soul out of it and turned it into a messy turd.

Problem is: I know Tyler can sing a lot better than this, but it’s almost as Jim Carrey’s version of I Am The Walrus. And the band sounds like a regular bar band. I thought the solo was pretty good though.

oh jeez... so this how it sounds like if a Rolling Stones song is done by a 'proper' rock and roll singer... some bloody generic screamings and no any idea of expression or distinctivity in voice or, to not forget the most important thing, sex - in doing the actual verses and chorus... having judged a bit too many 'talent' shows or what?

A great reminder by Tyler and whatever the band is how authentic and unique Jagger & co are. Not that idea is to copy the Stones (I hope not). But they just make a great song to sound so damn lame. Adding nothing, taking anything great out of it.

Never would waste another three minutes or so again with that muzak.

Saw this tune with Steven and Nuno today. I dig it. It's not The Stones, but doesn't try to be. On the other hand I'd "bust-a-nut" for Tyler most every time.

terrible awful shitty version of Brown Sugar.....as for the political nature of Joe Perry..he lives here in the conservative bastion of SW Florida known as Sarasota.

But I know what I (don'T) like....

Disappointing.
Surprisingly for both Tyler and the band.

Seems like this version should have been titled "take one".

As suspected I don't like it nearly as much as the original, but I don't hate it either. It's not bad for what it is, though I don't see myself playing it often.

Re: Steven Tyler -Muscle Shoals Brown Sugar cover
Date: August 31, 2018 09:18

Tyler is the weak link here, imo. Rhythm, timing, soul, punch and danger - it's all peeled off. It's unsexy. It's rubbish. Disappointing...

Re: Steven Tyler -Muscle Shoals Brown Sugar cover
Date: August 31, 2018 10:15

It was interesting that they stayed so close to the original, sound-wise, regarding the circumstances (Bettencourt usually plays different styles). For the band, that worked for a while, imo. Then, all of a sudden, they skipped a chorus after the guitar solo, turned the beat down 50 percent and made the whole damn thing halt and stumble - right when they (imo) should have put that thing in 5th gear!

It's good fun, hearing cover versions of your favourite songs - but the task of re-creating the magic or creating something new and worthwhile might have been too big for these guys.

This left me puzzled, just like Aerosmith's horrendous version of You Gotta Move did (there are other good songs on Bobo, though).

Basically I agree with most of the criticisms I've read. But also I think some of us are missing the point that it's a cover song done as a tribute to legacy type music. It's never going to compete with our cherished favorites and if you look at it this way maybe you can can avoid disappoinment. This is my perspective on the subject. Maybe not popular though.

a very, véry 'impotent' version -
the song, its writers, ànd the performers here as well (including Steven Tyler) completely unworthy.

Band (seperate instruments) & vocals seem miles away from each oher...
Why didn't they simply gather together in the studio, and do a couple of 'live' recordings??
I mean: it's a tribute to the studio, nót its mixing console, after all...?!?

Well, now that I've finally gotten around to listening to this, I realize this is one of those cover versions you'll sit through once and never spin again. It's, IMHO, the kind of version that'd be played at a bar in Vegas to get the crowd pumped up. As the saying goes, "Nice try, but no cigar."

i'm sorry and WILL Hairball.
i am sorty to refernce my OWN old nonsense.

i think it was inappropiate and insenzsitive.

you're one of the most informed and articulate,
and the diverse tastes
and styles in your canon of reference,
just REALLY show my own lack of creative open-ness to enjoy
the ones i am famliar with, and get into the ones i am only vaguely,
if at all, familiar with.

i think i broke my own trust and agreement with myself by subtly slamming
your posting name,
or not so subtly.
it wasn't funny and it was casually insensitve
and i'm ashamed of myself.
whoa, i just came across this and apprecaite
you and would appreciate forgivenss.
i am genuinely sorry and do not
repsect the way i behaved,
or actually really feel that way about you at all.
please forgive me...

Easy, hopkins. You don't deserve the self-flagellation unless you enjoy that sort of thing.

Besides, as your namesake wrote on the back of JAMMING WITH EDWARD, "No wonder they keep me down in the @#$%& basement."

Not trying to speak for Hairball, but I thought the exchange was in good fun. Some people like Steven Tyler's version and some don't. There isn't a right and wrong.

I enjoy your posts. They're like being dropped in a literary labyrinth while tripping on acid. I always finish The Adventure and think in spite of everything, I know what you meant.

Mind you, I just flew from Texas back to Ohio, am working my butt off through a holiday weekend, and went Vegan 3 1/2 weeks ago for a serious health reason. So long story short, my own perspective is a bit shaken.

That said, hopkins, all is well and if everyone doesn't love you, I doubt they feel different about you than they did before. Hairball is a good guy. Passionate about the band. Opinionated like most of us. I don't think any of us mean any lasting harm to the rest. Not even lem. (Yes, I'm teasing my old sparring partner if he reads this).

Yeah that's the way I saw it also. As the late great Laker announcer Chick Hearn used to say - "No harm, no foul"! thumbs up
I actually met good old Chick once at a bar in a hotel the Lakers were staying at back in the '80's during the "showtime years" with Kareem, Magic Johnson, etc. Didn't care about meeting any of them, but Chick Hearn was like a Saint, and I had to approach and thank him for all the years of listening to him announce Lakers games on the radio and tv. He was the nicest celebrity I've ever met! But before I digress into a hopkins style tangent ( winking smiley ) which I always like to read by the way, I'll leave it at that.

Cheers hopkins - no harm, no foul...it's only rock and roll (but we like it)!smileys with beer

Francis Dayle "Chick" Hearn (November 27, 1916 – August 5, 2002)
