Thanks for the info Georgelicks! Out of curiousity, I see Back In Black is at 149 on the US charts. What would that equate to in sales?

perfect fertile ground for a new Rolling Stones studio album.
How could the ever-ambitious Michael P. Jags (and K) resist. thumbs up

OR:

would they be competing with Hot Rocks?
I'm not sure if they get writer royalties from decca and klein etc...
that are somewhat commensurate to the Atlantic distributed stuff w Ahmet.
or however that works in the contemporay era.

Interesting how the Stones pretty much play a greatest hits set....then the greatest hits comp. albums move in the charts....then the Stones play pretty much only greatest hits on next tour...and hits comps move on charts..and then ...well....no wonder the band only plays old hits..they can read a chart too...this is a vicious cycle ....if undercover, dirty work, and steel wheels suddenly re-entered the charts and sold thousands of copies again you better believe the Stones would be at least trying to play those songs..but of course they are no longer able to so.....wonder why Rewind did'nt re-enter charts.LOL

Proof positive that there is absolutely no reason to record another album-

Can anyone say with a straight face that a new record would have a rightful place in that catalog? The Stones have a recording history that is a rock and roll masterwork.
The band has entered a final phase where they recreate The Rolling Stones using lights, sound, skill, energy and backing musicians in a live setting.
To recreate The Rolling Stones in a studio setting however,is not possible. They are missing Bill Wyman,Bobby Keys,Mick Taylor,Brian Jones,Ian Stewart,Jimmy Miller and the two main songwriters have nothing in common outside of the love of playing live and cashing checks.
No matter what they play live there is always a couple of songs we wish they would’ve done,I doubt that ever includes streets of love or drivin too fast.

Even if it has to be the outcome that a potential new studio album by the Rolling Stones cannot be estimated as belonging either to their groundbreaking albums or, somewhat less demanding, to their socalled great albums, I think more than a few listeners would like to go through the process once again to acquaint themselves with a new studio album from this band. It is a privilege to do as much, remember, and one of the joys of life for a fan. Then disagreement will probably result: Some will say that it is shallow or even weak beyond an immediately acceptable surface, others may compare it to a few successors to UNDERCOVER that they find at least some value in, not the same albums with everyone. Even among the former quite a few may later in hindsight think that it was a nice experience, after all, to go through the acquainting process with a Rolling Stones studio album once again at the time when that album is new. (And besides, even if it is not the most probably result, it is not excluded in advance that such an album by some listeners even might be better than all albums since UNDERCOVER.)

I really think B&L earned that spot. Not sure if a new album of originals would, but who knows?

2.4 million worldwide
363,000 in the U.S (382,000 including streaming points)
348,000 in the U.K
Over 55k in Italy

About the new album, the band will finish it sometime during the next 10-12 months, that's the word on Universal, so a release on late 2019 seems possible.

Why has Universal Music actually not updated the 'Jump Back'-Compilation to a 2CD-version 1971-2016 which fits to the new Vinyl-Box 1971-2016?

It would be a good complement to the classic 'Hot Rocks'-Compilation. 'Forty Licks' and 'GRRR!' are already some years old and out of print ....
