Would you please stop it?

Why Erik ? It is a topic about the Olympic games.

Celebrating each and every damned medal in that way is neither funny nor corresponding to the olympic spirit...

All in all good Olympic Winter Games. South Korea did well. Of course there are things to complain about like weak public attendance and such. But I'll let others do that.
Our athletes, Sweden, did better than expected and will return homewards as heroes. Media is very pleased.

When it comes to counting medals one have to remember the amount of medals to win these days as compared to the old days. In 1924 there were 16 events to win gold in,
in 1948 there were 22, in 1972 32 and so on. In these games there were 102 golds to win (or lose). Quite an inflation...

Well should also be aware of women being banned from participating for way too long..

The next event I have never seen, but am looking forward to, is MASS START speed skating. I don't know exactly what that means, but I think it is kind of like snow cross on ice! It is on Saturday... for the first time ever in the Olympics!

Mass Start Speed Skating [www.pyeongchang2018.com]

Start Time Event Status
20:00 Ladies' Mass Start Semifinal 1
20:15 Ladies' Mass Start Semifinal 2
20:45 Men's Mass Start Semifinal 1
21:00 Men's Mass Start Semifinal 2
21:30 Ladies' Mass Start Final for the MEADALS!
22:00 Men's Mass Start Final for the MEDALS!

I have been waiting excited to see this event and NBC blew it... of course.

They were supposed to show it this afternoon, but instead did some silly thing about ice skating from 50 years ago...
and tricked me into having it on (muted) while waiting to see the mass start... then they never showed it.

Then tonight they finally show it... but only show the finals? WTF NBC?
Seems they have to save time to show more skating tonight... but first... another Vonn interview.. yaaaawn.

I think I read that mass start speed skating is a big sport in some parts of the world where pros skate for money.
It looks interesting (could be exciting) but I didn't learn a damn thing about it based on the NBC coverage. That is shame.

I guess I will go back and find the recording of the full event with the semi finals (which I read were more exciting than the finals).

Just watched a recording this event, at least the semi finals of the womens mass start speed skating and this is a very very interesting and exciting event. I need to learn more about it. There are some things which do not make obvious sense, but I am sure are important to the game (like "icing" and "off sides" may seem like a strange rules in hockey, until one understands they are important to good game play).

As of now I can only watch 30 minutes (per day) on the official NBC viewer, so I only saw the womens semi finals and a bit of the mens... but IT WAS GREAT! I plan on staying with this, learning this event. It is pretty exciting and I bet even more so once I understand all the rules and strategies.

Too bad NBC did not give this sport the proper attention it deserves.

It kind of reminds me of...
I wonder if they ever pull out a Rollerball to spice things up?

How and what i celebrate, is not of your business.
There were no rules from B.V. about how and what to post.

I think today everyone has overcome the notion to interpret the Olympics as a marker for the 'superiority' of its Nation! Therefore, I don't mind your and everybody else's happiness about a success of someone you can identify with.

I really enjoyed the Olympics and sad its come to an end. Watching it was a nice respite from the world and reality. From the little bit I've read online, the closing ceremony was spectacular and this Olympics was considered a success. Don't mean to be political, but I have to say I'm annoyed with the Russian Hockey Team singing their national anthem. These athletes (the OARs) were forbidden to do so and it appears totally unappreciative that they were allowed to compete (and win Gold!) in the first place. They were banned. Very rude IMO.

It has been some great games, and I know hom much work there is from the athlets and their teams to get to the levels they are at. Most of them are away from home 250 daye per year, they work for four years to get to these games. There have been so many smiles and good competitions.

Then I am happy that the games are now over, so that I can sleep normal at nights and early mornings with work rather than following competitions on radio and TV. Tomorrow morning at 9am my time in Norway there is another game beginning, in fact it started some time ago already, the next tour...

Well in four years it's back to China (Beijing) for the 2022 Winter Olympics games. China beat out Almaty, Kazakhstan by a couple votes. Oslo, Norway withdrew its bid on 1 October 2014. Anyone know why?

But before that, Tokyo Japan will host the Summer games in 2020. They hosted the Summer games last in 1964.

This summer, we have the World Cup in Russia June 14 to July 15.

The people didn't want Norway to host it again (for the third time).

We had a referendum.

Canada tanked in Calgary too, we finished 13th with 2 silver and 3 bronze. You edged us out for 12th place with 3 silver and 2 bronze... At least there was beer.

Here in the south of Switzerland there's a discussion going on about Sion 2026. The government want to host but the people don't seem to like the idea, even if we've never hosted the games so far.

You have hosted The Olympics twice in Switzerland in St Moritz. It's a wise decision not to host The Olympics these days. Back in 1928 and 1948 it was easier.
Nowadays it's way too bombastic and expensive. Too many disciplines and to much commercialism. The public is always wiser than the government.

winning gold in literature that year. And Jim Thorpe being disqualified for
professionalism. Those were the days...

You're right, but I meant in our Kanton, Valais. I don't really have an opinion, but I still think it would be better here than in a poorer country that doesn't have the infrastructure or financial resources required.

The Olympics used to be a lot more fun back when they...
lasted a whole month, June 22 - July 22, and all of the athletes competed naked...
although there were numerous reports of athletes getting their dingalings caught up in ribbons and other thingsalings.

Terrific closing Ceremony last night. Today's rock shows could take a cue from the visual extravaganza on display - would love to see one of those in person.
