I think I found a loophole (for now).
Add the term
~original after the IP address as shown below, just before the final [/img] tag.

ExtraImage.net is a good alternative to PhotoBucket.
16 MB per image limit should be enough in most cases.

Photobucket third party hosting seems to be working again for free accounts.
Lots of my old images are displayed fine as before.
