No, it's always been like this in England so no change .........I remember me and my girlfriend at the time planning to go and see Bob Dylan in Earl's court in 1978. I was 18 and she 16.
Her parents told her she could only go if she got tickets in advance, got the train there and straight back because the IRA were busy in London........
As far as increased security goes....yes, it can be inconvenient and you do come across 'wannabe dictators' abusing their power now and then but the overall benefit is extra freedom because feeling safe(r) because of the checks is a form of freedom.................increased freedom from fear of being killed and freedom from actually being prematurely killed.
The irony of this latest one though is that he didn't go through any checks of any kind because he didn't attempt to go in the arena, he just stood in the foyer.........so...........

accidents and the chances of being in one being greater are one thing but if 22 people were deliberately mown down this week whether en masse or in 22 seperate incidents, you can bet that wouldn't just be another statistic either...........
