I appreciate and understand every extra security measure at all concerts I attend. Sometimes it's more extreme than others, but has never been a hassle or a nuisance considering the wild world we live in these days.
As for airports, same as above. The only real nuisance for me is that I have a knee replacement made of titanium which sets off the alarm, and I then have to step aside to go through the wand routine and patdown, etc. But alot of security checkpoints at certain gates these days have those giant x-ray walk-throughs - you raise your arms for a few seconds, they see you in the 'nude' lol, and I'm free to go on my merry way. I have nothing to hide, so the invasion of privacy issue is not a concern considering the alternative. Bottom line, I will continue to keep on keeping on no matter what.

Nope. My entire life there have been concert-related concerns, ranging from the possibility of an IRA bombing to fears of petty thefts in large crowds. My thinking has always been that the odds are always in my favor as long as I take sensible precautions, and those odds *especially* apply to terrorist incidents. I don't know anybody who's been involved in a terrorist incident at a concert, and I go to a lot of shows. I'm totally appalled like everyone else when these incidents do occur, but our reaction is in itself an indication of their rarity.

Music is the best antidote, IMO.

A bit of a silly question really, the statistical probability of anyone getting caught up in something like the Manchester bombing is infinitesimal. Just don't be stupid and let 'security' do their job, even though sometimes we all bitch and moan about queues and bag searches and all that stuff !!

No, nothing can stop me going to a show (except for lack of money, that is..).

Increasing security costs are one reason for the absurd ticket prices. Of course security matters affect our concert attendance - financially.

No, it's always been like this in England so no change .........I remember me and my girlfriend at the time planning to go and see Bob Dylan in Earl's court in 1978. I was 18 and she 16.
Her parents told her she could only go if she got tickets in advance, got the train there and straight back because the IRA were busy in London........

As far as increased security goes....yes, it can be inconvenient and you do come across 'wannabe dictators' abusing their power now and then but the overall benefit is extra freedom because feeling safe(r) because of the checks is a form of freedom.................increased freedom from fear of being killed and freedom from actually being prematurely killed.

The irony of this latest one though is that he didn't go through any checks of any kind because he didn't attempt to go in the arena, he just stood in the foyer.........so...........

Road accidents and the chances of being in one being greater are one thing but if 22 people were deliberately mown down this week whether en masse or in 22 seperate incidents, you can bet that wouldn't just be another statistic either...........

That statistical probability aside, bliss' question is totally legit--not silly. Security concerns will most definitely affect some people's future attendance at concerts, sporting events, large public gatherings, etc. Not mine, but it's an interesting question to pose. And if terrorism has a chilling effect for some people, it's not really fair to ridicule them...tho, personally, Lou Reed's song "Fly Into the Sun" has always resonated with me...

I'd expect security checks at the UArena to be very tight - the area has been targeted before, it will be the opening... But then I expect the design of the venue is optimized for those checks to happen smoothly. But then again that s a french venue so what do i know?

They already do. The number of attacks stopped by security measures is unknown and the number of actual on going attacks stopped in time is not known. One cannot really predict the attack but the police and other concerned authorities do it everyday.

I remember my mother saying she wanted me to stop going to concerts. That was in 1979, after The Who concert tragedy in Cincinnati. And my attitude was, "Stop going to concerts? Yeah, like that's ever gonna happen!" If I didn't stop then, I'm certainly not gonna stop now.
