Joey Kramer Disses Charlie and The Stones

From Blabbermouth.net. What a tool. Flame away!

AEROSMITH drummer Joey Kramer says that when it comes to playing live, his band is in a league of its own. He tells Classic Rock magazine: "First of all, as far as AEROSMITH goes there is no band that has been around for almost fifty years that still has the original five guys in the band.

"Everybody is always raving about THE [ROLLING] STONES, saying THE STONES this and THE STONES that. I've never cared for THE STONES. They never had anything to offer me musically, especially in the drumming department."

He continues: "THE STONES is not the original band and I do not care for them. I think if you came to see an AEROSMITH concert, people would realize that we play so much better than them that it's silly because they're not so good live.

"Yeah, they are what they are and all of that, but I don't think there's a band out there today that does what we do."

Isn't jazz a more sophisticated genre than rock ? Charlie is sophisticated, and brings a jazz sensibility to his drumming.

Anyone heard Honkin On Bobo? It's rubbish compared to Blue & Lonesome ? The Stones will always be head and shoulders above Aerosmith.

Ha ha, funny. Is that the same Joey Kramer that SINGER Steven Tyler had to help learning how to play a straight rhythm many years into his career?

Gosh, it's hard to be #2! grinning smiley

Screw Joey and screw Aerosmith...bunch of right-wing Ted Nugent-wannabe tools.

Brad and Tom are the only decent human beings in that band.

Very broad brush to paint all five of them with ? p.s. not a fan of the current regime as a little background.

Steve and Joe met Obama last year on an airport tarmac and posted a photo with him, and Joey went nuts, saying that it wasn't something he'd ever do and that it tarnished Aerosmith. The guy seems unhinged.

Even Joe said that while he didn't agree with the President politically, he still felt honored to meet him.

Joey Framer, the poor man's Artimus Pyle.
Ouch.

I'll be honest...I always thought Joey was a very bland drummer, and that was well before he started shooting his mouth off left and right.

He never had much swing to his playing...even in the '70s, his back beats felt kinda stiff and overly-mechanical. He certainly had some good moments, but I'll take guys like Phil Rudd and Alex Van Halen over him any day.

Wow , I did not know that about Joey Kramer , seems he is a bit of a wingnut ,can I retract my earlier comment about broad brushes?

Pretty weird...Joey always seemed cool in interviews but he's done some really odd stuff the last few years.

Aerosmith are gone since the album "Rocks"

Aerosmith just doesn't have the pedigree to even be commenting on the Stones especially Charlie Watts.

Wow. Big Aerosmith fan and anything I've seen Joey in he's been really cool. Disappointing and sad side to see of him. He's no Charlie and never would be. He shouldn't diss the Stones, especially cause he's way off base as well. I do think Aerosmith still sound great, and his main argument is they are the original 5 which is a major accomplishment. But other than that, he sounds really dumb.

Love Aerosmith and Joey was always my least favorite member.
You have Tyler, Perry, Whitford even Hamilton fans.
Noone is a Kramer fan. There's nothing special about his drumming.
The famous drumparts are Tylers.

But hey... still love Aerosmith and looking forward to their European tour.

No Charlie? Why, he's no Joe Bouchard! He's not even Jerry Edmonton. He makes Keef Hartley sound like Aynsley Dunbar...and so on and so forth. ; )

it's just stupid; the band was forming about the time of SF. When they were signed eoms was the latest stones album; never saw them but was a year in Boston when they were doing the biggest college wingdings before their deal. The look of course was total Stones, i mean overtly so...steve was basically doing Mick. kramer was probably praying for tickets in Boston '69, '72

Is it possible that he was joking? I mean maybe if there was a video of this interview or whatever it is, it would come accross completely differently. I like Aerosmith a lot, but Joey as a drummer absolutely can not be compared with Charlie and I am sure he is very well aware of that. Hard to believe he would actually meant it, so I will rather take it as joke, which is fine :-)

Politics and egos aside, I think neither Charlie nor Joey are particularly accomplished drummers in a traditional musical sense. Charlie's drumming has more character than Joey's for sure, but none of them are any John Bonhams, Ginger Bakers. That said, I love lots of Charlie's drumming and I like some of Joey's stuff as well, especially on Toys and Rocks.
