I Can't Quit You Baby

Well I can't quit you baby
But I'm going to have to put you down for a while
Well I can't quit you baby
But I'm going to have to put you down for a while
Well, you know, you messed up my life now baby
You made me mistreat my only child

Yes, you know I love you baby
And you know my love for you I'll never hide
Yes, you know I will always love you baby
And my love, my love for you I'll never hide
Yeah you know I'm crazy about you baby - yeah
And you're just all I want inside

Yeah, go Eric
Yeah

Whoo!
Yeah

Yeah, I'm so so tired now, so tired now baby
I'm so tired I want to lay down and cry
Yes, I'm so tired, I'm so tired baby
I want to lay down and cry
Yes you're my only, only lover
You're my only heart desire

Well, all right
Yeah

Yes, you hear me moaning, moaning and groaning, yeah
You know, you know it hurts me, hurts me deep down inside - whoo! - come on
You - yes and you hear me moaning and groaning baby
Yeah, it hurts me, it hurts me deep down inside
When you hear me howling up baby
Mmm yeah, you know my only, only my heart desire

Nice version. Would be interesting to hear how and why they invited EC to play on the track.

He recorded in another studio in the same building and popped by, according to the Stones.

I know it’s only the blues, but I like it … yes I do!! Jagger (again!) blows this listener away, yelping and wailing his heart out in an absolutely riveting vocal performance. The guitar-work on this one is outstanding as well.

A fine way to close a brilliant album where the songs are not always to my taste but the Stones themselves are simply on fire and prove, for the umpteenth time, that they are the greatest rock and roll band the world has ever known.

Drew

P.S. Nicos, thank you so much for stewarding Track Talk through what is currently the final officially-released track in the Stones library!! Where do we go from here? smoking smiley

One of B&L´s most outstanding highlights! I like it better than any other version I know. There´s great soloing and Mick completely unleashed. A marvelous treatment of a great song. They are true Blues-men.

Not one of their better covers.
Mick's vocals are a bit too outlandish, over the top, and forced.
I like the Zeppelin version better mostly for the guitar solo - Plants vocals are also outlandish and over the top, but that was his style.
Hard to listen to any covers by any band when you can listen to Otis Rush play the original - whether it's studio or or live - far superior imo.

For me this one and Everybody Knows About My Good Thing are the "weakest" songs on B&L. I mean, I like them and the performances are great, but for me they're the most stereotypical blues tunes on the album. Every other song has something special about it, but ICQYB and EKAMGT belong to the kind of blues you'd hear in an elevator, imo.

The band gives the track a heartbeat .... No over play
from Clapton he gives just what is needed ... Mick shines on vocals...
One of the top tracks from B&L...... A wonderful cover of the Rush number ...

Never been able to sit thru the Zeppelin version hairball ... Always found it a yawn ... when that album first appeared it was the track us gang always lifted the needle on...

Yes, you know I love you baby
And you know my love for you I'll never hide ................ XFX

..."Electric guitars: Keith Richards & Ron Wood (incl. 2nd solo)
Electric guitar: Eric Clapton (incl. 1st solo)..."

thanks Nicos,
i thought that 1st solo is Ronnie and the 2nd solo Eric...

It's always a blessing to enjoy the last track on an album,
but it bypassed me this time. The vocals are way overboard.

I love LZ, but never cared much for their version of this one ... The Stones kill it however, and Micks 'overboard' vocals to some, are just great!

Mick's wild & outrageous phrasing has always been a big part of his vocal style.

I thnk Don Was once commented on its being one of the things that fascinated him & attracted him to working with the Stones.

Mick is incredible on the entire album. He sounds exactly the way he should. There is only one white boy alive doing better Blues-vocals than Mick.
The Stones should do another Blues-album since their remaining creative power seem to allow only one or two goods songs every once in a while. A new album of originals would be 2-3 great songs and some decent ones and lots of superfluous fillers, just like B2B or Steel Wheels was.

Eric Bourdon?

Don't hear much of Eric Burden these days.

What's he up to ?

Eric Burdon was/maybe still is a great blues singer, but that was as a member of the Animals and part of his band's hype in the early-mid '60's.
I know he's still active touring small venues, but he's kind of a thing of the distant past these days.
Personally I think Mick is better, but he doesn't always hit the 'sweet spot' as proven on a couple of these recent cover tunes.
It's all a matter of taste, but overall and generally speaking, in the big picture Mick is the winner amongst the two.

Hope that the succcess of the Stones-Blues-album encourages EB to record a Blues-album. That would be a treat (even if he would hire Mick Taylor for the guitar parts).

It's like a crash course in everything that keeps our Michael more the posturing clown
and not the source of all that special resonant soulful naturally creative and dynamic voice I KNOW he still has.
Country Honk on recent ole ole backstage proves it; he's got every bit of real character, humor, facility, resonance, tone...

Mick's the weakest link in the chain on this one imo. Sort of like Screamin' Jay Hawkins kind of Halloween shtick.
It's own Cringe-Stock festival. Over done; over-blown; histrionic ala al jolson blackface skit.
it's like vaudeville take on the blues or almost a satire. Not that funny.

Greg Allman would be hard to beat out on that title!

Not proven at all smoking smiley I think he sings those tunes brilliantly.

Love Eric Burdon, though, but he's a bit less versatile than Mick as a singer, imo.

Yeah sure Love Eric; Animalism; those john lee hooker covers like Maudie; that gentleman has such a unique driving wonderfully rich sound. those first couple of Animals albums put them right at the very top with the finest output from everybody else those early Invasion days imo, even considering all the very best of the groups in competition in the very early going...
for me anyway; maudie was like 'she said yeah' or something in that when it broke out you just hit the ceiling and stayed there; too very much great heat all at once; really fine stuff...builds the tension than lets it break and explode; Eric has this huge resonant beautiful soulful gift.
