Yes, strange. And bass? Not the most up front instrument. cool smiley And today I guess you can just push a button: "This is what a bass sounds like in Electric Ladyland Studios, and here you have Hansa Studios, Berlin." But what do I know. smiling smiley

"A source said: 'Bill hasn’t seen the band together for years, but always loved Charlie. This record’s really a tribute to Charlie, so he couldn’t say no.'"

WHO/WHAT IS THE "SOURCE"?

When Carl Wilson died, David Marks--who had been a mostly forgotten trivia question footnote for years--was welcomed back into the Beach Boys.

This is good publicity. Mick Taylor should keep his schedule clear.

It’s hard to believe. And Ringo does not not play on the new album. That rumor was put to bed by th Stones PR months ago

The Yahoo article states the source was " The Sun". It doesn't give any other information.

If it is only Bill performing on one track, I have no problem believing the story is true. In particular since it is a tribute to Charlie.

Really hoping it is more than that, but at this point I don't see Bill rejoins the Stones full time.

at 86, guesting on a song is about as much as any musician can do.

If Charlie has some drumming on the album, maybe jazz/blues covers over the years during sessions - unused at the time, but Charlie, as usual, in the groove, whether first take or just a jam?

This needs to be linked into the other thread! It’s good, though: other news sources mirroring what The Sun published first!

There were a number of sessions with Don Was between late 2015 and 2019. Backing tracks are often left largely intact from recording sessions while vocals, guitars, horns, etc. will be added or perfected during mixing and overdubbing. When production duties passed to Andrew Watt, there is no reason to think that the material cut with Don Was behind the board was discarded. The tracks might have new titles, different lyrics and vocals, different solos, but it will still be the same drumming. A bass line or two might be lost during mixing allowing for other luminaries to replace what was originally cut, but you're still getting tracks with Charlie as well as newer material with Steve.

Then LA will fly to him. Maybe old takes, and please more Mick Taylor. Last chance when true.

I have not gotten an answer

didn't he just record a whole album that's longer then just one song?

They were but had not been together in the studio at the same time.

I wish Bill played in the record in its entirety. I think this is what Charlie would have loved. In any case it would immensenly be appreciated by most of the fan base.

I'm thrilled to see Bill back with the Stones even if it's on only one track.
I also hope it has Charlie on the drums.
The Stones haven't had the same sound without Bill!

I hope the first single features Bill and Charlie. Would be the first such since Highwire/Sex Drive. Very cool.

They’ll be “guesting” on their own album then; at this rate it’ll finally be out when they’re all in the mid 80s.

The Stones ( ie Jagger Richards ) have obviously forgotten how to make an album. Whatever they produce now will inevitably fall short of expectations.

I have had enough and am now quite content to listen to Beggars Banquet or Aftermath.

I certainly will not spend a penny of my pension on any “new” album.......they have lost the plot.......and I suspect that after Blue And Lonesome reached number one, a certain person wants to go out on top and is afraid any “new” album won’t cut the mustard.

I now believe the Stones are not running out of time but have run out of time..without Charlie it’s over......I have no more expectations of them.....just my thanks for all those years of great music.

I'm still in a state of suspended expectation... I still believe it will come.

... Once this page clicks to page 666 ...
