In praise of Love You Live

I know this album gets a lot of stick...

But - aside from the generally admired El Mocambo side - I do have to say that it's got probably my favourite version of It's Only R&R.

I find this song can often be a bit boring but this version really rocks.

Punchy versions of Brown Sugar and JJF too.

Like it? Yes I do!

Couldn't agree more I've never been a particular fan of the original. The Love you live version is infinitely preferable, and how it should have been recorded originally......
Its cool...... And you're right It Rocks!

Hot Stuff, You Gotta Move, SFTD, If You Can't Rock Me/GOOMC.

There are many more GREAT versions in there thumbs up

When I had to live in Arizona for a year when I was 15 back in '77/78, Love You Live was one of the few albums I was able to bring with me from home.
It's ingrained in the brain, and I'll always love it from start to finish warts and all. A time capsule and part of the soundtrack of that year - the memories are priceless.

Best version of Honky Tonk Women ever.

Side 3 is great. Fingerprint File is interesting, Hot Stuff is entertaining. IORR is kickin'. SFTD is pretty good. YCAGWYW is awesome. Could do without the rest but the incredibly fast horrible version of Brown Sugar is hilarious with that obvious edit! and JJF is a train wreck that is oddly enjoyable to listen to once in a while.

Always did love this album. It was a bit sloppier than Ya Ya's but still had enormous punch and energy. My only complaint - and I'll take flack for this - is that the club side, great as it is, would have been better saved for a separate whole-show release. Stuck in between the arena material, it kind of interrupts the flow of the other three sides. I often listen to sides 1,2 & 4 and save side three for separate listening.

The Band Introductions alone are worth the price of admission.
Love the version of "Hot Stuff". The way it starts with Keith's guitar, which on B&B is one of the tinniest guitars ever laid on to any tape; but on LYL it's all loose and funky.
Also "@#$%&" is a very good version.
And there have been entire threads devoted to Ronnie's solo on YCAGWYW, but all in all it is a pretty mean solo.
Everyone agrees that Side 3 is spectacular. With me it is Side 4 that didn't get a lot of play, which is crazy because IORR and BS are on fire.

I liked it at the time. That is what counts. It was the second live-album I bought after Still Life. It did the trick for me. I listened to it over and over again. I haven't listened to it for a long time now though.
But that goes for a lot of records. And back then Stones live recordings were scarce. For a long while it was Still Life, this one and Ya Ya's. Before I discovered the bootlegs section...

Still Life is rather sterile; better the 1981 Hampton, and 1982 Leeds archive stuff.

However, I adore Love You Live, and the sheer sloppiness of it.

Yes, my favorite IORR version.
Guitars... and a true rock'n roll piano. Period.
And what an intro.
