I recall reading in Death of a Rolling Stone it mentioned something to the effect that Brian wasn't happy with Satisfaction because all he played was the basic acoustic guitar.

On don't believe at all that's Jones on acoustic. That's Richards to my ears.

well, then, would it stand to reason that the electric guitar was the basic track guitar, since it starts the song? And the acoustic was added later. I can't see how they could have overdubbed the instrument that starts the whole song.

See, Mathijs agrees. The fuzz that starts the song is very easy to O/D. And it's documented pretty well that they added that track later.
So at earlier date when they first recorcded this new Keith song, there is no way that Brian would be playing the main guitar
My point about the thread is more that it hit me that, unless Brian was playing a featured part, a hook, his input was minimal even in early days. Maybe to them, the earky band, who were actually playing live with him it was a whole other story, but as far as recordings go, as far as a strong second guitar goes, it s almost negligible.

Except for the songs where he played the tremolo rhythm guitar (Off The Hook etc.). Those parts stood out, imo.
