What makes Ronnie so viable?
Posted by: noughties ()

I know he`s younger, but I don`t know how much younger. Just look at the pic at the front of this site. Maybe he`s been very lucky with this picture. We all know he`s called a party animal. That would normally show. He`s slim. He has kept his hair. He appearantly adores his Sally. This couldn`t be better for an agening rocker.

On many other recent pictures he looks ill and he has massive underweight. He is probably not in the great shape most folks here seem to believe.

Viable? To what? Don't understand the question.

I don't understand the question, and he does not look ill at all.

He's 69 and has a low fat-percent. Nothing wrong with that.

compared to others in the band – alcohol instead of heroin etc

Mick, keith and Charlie are vital to the band. Ronnie to a lesser degree is also essential after all he has given to the band. Ronnie rocks.

Maybe sobriety. You never know, but that's the word.

yes, I think the right description of Ronnie Wood is that he has been revitalized by his sobriety....he is the glue it seems....

Ronnie's always been naturally skinny and is lucky that hasn't changed as he's got older.

He doesn't strike me as a person who would sit still for longer periods of time, either (even though he paints) - hence the energy might keep him fit smiling smiley

The way I interpret the question is how come Ronnie still looks so much alive, so "boyish" and eager and enthusiastic. And my answer would be that's always been his character and the reason he held out for so long in the Stones, where Brian and Mick T. couldn't. Apparantly, taking life easy and with a joke is very healthy. (And I am sure he had his lows as well of course).

Also, a lot of hair dye.

Definitely right! He's a real bundle of energy.

Ronnie's sobriety has done wonders for his viability and vitality.

It was amazing to see the difference in his playing from when he was (very) actively drinking and partying and after he got sober. The difference is as stark as when he was "dating" that teenage Russian girl and in the tabloids and marrying Sally. I think if he continued the spiral he was in during that 2008 period, he would no longer be a stone and perhaps no longer be at all..

An excerpt from a tabloid from that period..
"Wood - who is drinking two bottles of vodka a day - met Miss Ivanova after the London premiere of the Stones documentary, Shine A Light, on April 2 in a seedy escort bar in Soho."

Boy Howdy.

Watts and Richards have obvioulsy not tried to stay "younger" by altering their appearances with hair dye or whatever else. Imagine what this band would look like if Wood and Jagger stopped dyeing their hair and/or invested in hair plugs.

McCartney too, for that matter. He's begun to let his sideburns be their natural color.

Actually Keith wears his bandana to partly hide his receding hairline and is certainly not averse to wearing stage make up.
Mick's hair colour and style actually make him look older. Robert Plant is the same. Page on the other hand could pass for someone in their 50's...despite his excesses (in the past, of course).
Ronnie is rumoured to have had some (facial) cosmetic surgery.

Keith dyed his hair for YEARS. He let it go gray for the B2B tour, and then started dying it again until 2012.

And didn't Charlie have a hair transplant? He had a much more prominent bald spot in the late '70s/early '80s. Let's not pretend these guys aren't all incredibly egotistical, even Charlie.

Yep, an impressive comeback after the cocktail waitress down spiral...From the little we saw of him in Bondy he did seem very "sprightly", that never hurts.

As for the hair color, he insisted for years (at least until 1997) in interviews that he didn't dye his hair and that it stayed black due to his gipsy origins...someone should remind him of that story ;-)

In a few of the scenes from Ole doc, I noticed that he has flecks of grey now. Ronnie has a youthful outlook on life, that helps enormously in his vitality.

Being in the Rolling Stones keeps you young. Fun job, good money, access to good health care, lots of friends, you have a purpose to life, performing is a form of exercise.
Maybe a hidden factor -- these guys all grew up in Britain in the austere '50s and weren't eating junk food, drinking cola, staring at screens all day ... they were getting exercise. Obviously they abused drugs and alcohol later, but when they were young men they were extremely fit.

Keith's dye jobs were horrid. Too pale and too dark was his look then. Much better now. Charlie did seem to have a larger bald spot now that you mention it.. He stays fit though.. seems to be key as well as $$.

As a rule people are not lucky to be thin and its actually annoying to thin people to hear people claim that. People try to make that claim all the time. I would guess that he and Jagger understand that a fat rock star is not a good look so they do what they have to do so they can stay thin. I am in my 50s and except for health problems everyone I have ever known weighs what they should weigh by how much they exercise and how much they eat.

Its simple. Calories in vs calories out. I don't know why so may people have trouble grasping that.
