The Story of the fantastic 1976 stage

Yes, the 1975 Lotus beats them all.
But here come the tent thing of 1976.

http://orangecamp.dk/Eng/html/history.html

"The story of OrangeStage or The Canopy Stage as its also called go far back. Actually all the way back to 1976, when The Rolling Stones needed a stage for their european tour.
It was a man named Bill Harkin that made the design of the tent and without his knowledge created what later on would be the icon of Roskilde Festival through all theese years. And by our opinion one of the most characteristic and beautiful rock stages in the world. (Before and later on he designed other tents and stages, and still does today).

When the drawings was complete he needed to test the design. Just as when we build our tent he chose to start with a scale model. He was building a full size rock stage so he chose a size for his scale model that is actually pretty close to the full size of our tent. This model was complete in the early spring 1976."

Of course, a precursor of this was used in 1975 for outdoor shows, including Milwaukee (note beer barrel, giant beer mug and chalet behind stage - yup, Wisconsin) [richzimmermann.com]

I think Bill Harkin may also have designed the stage used for Queen's Hyde Park concert, also in 1976. You can see it in the opening shots on this video.

If you scroll down the same guy took a few photos of the Stones live in 72 in Minnesota as well.

Nice stuff.

He did some great work for The Bugle American (a freebie Milwaukee paper in the 70s) including a great spread for the '75 show

It's not the Lotus Ill give you that. But it looked cool on those old pics, like a bat from the 70s. And besides, Keith and Mick were inside that tent.

At Knebworth the stage area inflated into The Tongue so that was fantastic-ish!
