The kid will be fine. I'm not advocating smoking in front of children, but I've known lots of people who grew up with parents smoking in the house all the time, and they're OK. Hanging out with Keith for a few minutes while he happens to have a lit cigarette isn't going to do any harm. I'm sure the place was well ventilated.

At one stage my mum smoked, my dad smoked, my brother smoked, and I smoked. We have all given up.

I gave up spliff in 1995, as I wanted to keep my head. Tobacco was harder to quit, but i did so in 2003.

I've found that the children of smokers are less likely to become smokers themselves. I'm sure there are exceptions and that's not always true, but I've known a lot of people whose parents smoked, and it completely turned them off from cigs. Another common scenario... if the kids did grow up to be smokers themselves, they had more awareness about the importance of quitting cigs because they didn't like what it did to their parents.

My mum is still a heavy smoker, I have grown up around her smoking, and I am a non smoker. l do not like it when smokers are victimised.There are a lot of other worst things one can do.
