Anything known about the cause?

Sadly, coroner says he likely shot himself in the head.

I saw ELP in Buffalo in 1978. I remember walking up to the stage - there was floor seating - to check out the stage before the show started. Red velvet cloth covered the stage and a myriad of instruments.

In all honesty, I've always considered it the most boring show I've ever seen. I suppose you really had to be into them. I went to the show for two reasons, curiosity and to say that I've seen them.

A sad ending nonetheless, RIP Keith Emerson.

Since 1975, I cannot listen to Fanfare for the Common Man without expecting to hear the Honky Tonk Woman at its conclusion.

I think "Lucky Man" was the only song by ELP that got talked about among people that otherwise were "taking it all in". By that I mean the whole late 60s rock scene. By that I mean hippies, baby boomers, in short; the common man. The rest of their reportoire was for people who were into them.

Definitely their best-known track, but "From the Beginning" was a Top 40 single (their only one), and lots of their stuff got played on FM radio (and still does, on the classic rock stations).

ELP was never my kind of music in the manner that King Crimson to some extent markedly was. I did respect ELP though and have listened to the nine vinyl releases that I have got. In fact, I saw Nice live in the autumn of 1969 (I think it was), even if I only bought one compilation from Nice later. Keith Emerson made quite an impression on me on that occasion.

Then it has been another sad day when a major musician and creator of music has gone. One really to remember.

Edit: I have taken away a quote, made by my phone yesterday, that was not intended then.

I was really into progressive music in my teens. ELP made some really complex music, but still it was surprisingly accessible to even people who never learnt music -- just simply enjoyed music.

There are people who find no connection with his music, but no one can say he wasn't good at what he was doing.

He was a very nice guy. Funny, witty, patient, and never too much. When I met him a few years back and spent time talking with him, he seemed like the most normal, most down to earth guy.

A really sad end to a great life!

The Hendrix of Hammond.

So if one were to rate the top 5 ELP albums from best to worst, what would be your list for someone who never listened to them? What about top live albums?

Feel free to tell us more, I would like to hear about when you met him, if you would like to share.
I was one of the never learnt music people, but I sure like ELP.
