I think "Lucky Man" was the only song by ELP that got talked about among people that otherwise were "taking it all in". By that I mean the whole late 60s rock scene. By that I mean hippies, baby boomers, in short; the common man. The rest of their reportoire was for people who were into them.

I was really into progressive music in my teens. ELP made some really complex music, but still it was surprisingly accessible to even people who never learnt music -- just simply enjoyed music.
There are people who find no connection with his music, but no one can say he wasn't good at what he was doing.
He was a very nice guy. Funny, witty, patient, and never too much. When I met him a few years back and spent time talking with him, he seemed like the most normal, most down to earth guy.
A really sad end to a great life!
