Where did you hear Melody, please, did someone take Billy Preston's role, and in general how was it?

Shep. Bush in 99' (London). It was good to hear it due to how rare it is (3 times ever). However, let's face it...this isn't the best Stones song ever & not the #1 choice for a live song. I enjoyed it (my first club gig), but wouldn't have minded something else (say Sway, Jigsaw, etc.)

I hate to sound like a broken record, but it seems lik it would be a great song for Mick to act out...which seems to be what gets him going the most...

Did Bernard do Billy's part?

smile: i got to hear the Stones do a short form of Melody at Nijmegen in 95 -
or anyway something that sounded a lot like a short form of Melody.
[editor's note: thanks WildHorse Pete!]
other than that ... i've witnessed a bunch of those listed here by others,
but somehow i don't think of them as being especially rare.

melody @ Shepherds Bush in '99 - only version ever apart from the (uncirculated) performances at El Mocambo in 1977

Moon is Up at Shepherds Bush. Only live performance EVER. And they nailed it.

Was at Hartford in 99 when they played "I got the blues" for the first time since its premiere at the Marquee TV special in 1971

Thru and Thru live debut at MSG 02 a nice surprise

far away eyes at Rotterdam in '95 with Mick on piano

Connection played for the 1st time at Keith's solo set in Paris in 95 (previously it had been a duet)

YGMR - not a rare song of course, but the performance at Anaheim in 2002 was pretty unique. Played as the first of two encores, was scratching my head wondering why they were doing so and then when they got to the line about the "pitcher" and up came the video footage of the Angels winning the World Series a week or two earlier, we got the answer. A nice touch for the home fans, who duly went nuts.

Best of all, though. Keith singing "loch lomond" in Glasgow in 2003, followed by "its a long way to tipperary" in Dublin a week later. Absolutely jaw dropping.

When they played I GOT THE BLUES in Memphis 1999 I got goose bumps. I had read on this site that they had played it at a couple of shows before Memphis but thought the odds were not in our favor to hear it again. I love that song, it really represtents to me the Stones. Great bluesy sounds, great lyrics, and great playing. Soooo... when they started the song ....man...like I said goose bumps. So I GOT THE BLUES has to take the cake over all the other rarely played songs.

Some great songs on the thread...would love to catch several.

withsssoul...I assume you saw this performed not by the Stones since they did not play in 95. See Gazza's post for the dates ever played.

They didn`t play melody in 95, but they were doing a kind of jamming in nijmegen, and that sound like melody. But it whas only the music, Jagger didn`t sang at it at all.

Didn't any of you see them do "Torn and Frayed" on the last tour?
I was so excited to see it on the early set lists but then it disappeared, much to my dismay. Never got to see it. Maybe it was too obscure and country to get a good audience reaction.

Another thing, has anyone ever seen the Stones cover Otis Redding's "Mr. Pitiful?" That would be so great!
