Should Keith accept a knighthood if asked?
Posted by: Turner68 ()
Date: September 3, 2015 08:11

Seems like the time is coming for Keith to be given the ultimate in honors from his home country, especially after all the plaques going up.

If Keith is offered a Knighthood, should he accept it and become "Sir Keith"?

Keith would never accept it and rightfully so.

Nope.

Keith will never be offered one by the establishment over here.
Only chance would be if there was an avid royal Stones fan or a left wing Labour leader became Prime Minister here in the U.K.
Both highly unlikely.

After what he wrote about Mick accepting his knighthood in 'Life' it would be pure hypocrisy.

My understanding is the plaques are temporary

I seriously doubt the monarchy will continue for very long after the death of the current queen, and along with it will go new knighthoods and other titles. The public does not view the current heirs to the throne with much respect or affection, and resent their ultra-priviledged lives at taxpayers' expense. Knighthoods and the like will be replaced with distinguished service medals. And I believe Keith would accept one of those.

I have felt, though, that Charlie should have been knighted. But where does it end - as Mick said, if one child gets an ice cream, they all want one.

No one will ever think of asking him.

Exactly - these plaques are a promo campaign, not official recognition.

He'd never accept it. But when he's in town this month I'm gonna raid my lingerie drawer and make him a Knight of the Garter. No paltry honour! grinning smiley

Only if it's for services to the chemical industry.

It would ruin his image, smoking on stage, snorting ashes, having a joint for breakfast, I mean Sir Cliff sounds ok but Sir Keith?

Doesn't he live in Connecticut? Do they hand out knighthoods there?

Why did Mick get knighted anyway? and if he got one, why didn't Keith? i understand someone like Bob Geldof being knighted.

But Keith has said "they wanted to run us out, now they give knighthoods " or words to that effect...
don't think he'd want it.

Mick has had these aspirations since he was young. I recall an old interview where he mentioned this. And by affiliating with Tony Blair, it came to pass. But giving one to Keith was never on the cards.

This and I very much doubt he would accept one anyway. When Mick was offered his, Keith was furious that he was even considering accepting it. Apparently he said something along the lines of "That's just not what we're about. You can tell them anything you want, tell them to shove it up their ar*e". I'm sure there's an interview somewhere where he said that.

I very much doubt he has changed his stance since then either. Our Keith is many, many things, but he's NOT a hypocrite.

He would be far from the 1st person to turn down a knighthood. Had John Lennon survived, he'd have been a candidate though doubt he would have accepted it. He returned his OBE 3 years after receiving it! Danny Boyle, organiser of the London Olympics Opening Ceremony turned one down.

Mick signaled that he wanted one, Keith signaled that he detests the whole thing.

Keith will never be offered or receive a knighthood.

Isnt it kind of like getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame where both sides (the giver and reciever) must have an interest it happening, and then there is some shenanaigans, lots of posing, some woohing and azzkissing, much pomp and circumcisions, ballots and voting along with some whereas and heretofores, plus some more and then... more stuff.

It does not seem like either Keith or the people in charge of this have any interest in any of this... but it looks like it makes for a popular thread.

I would bet Keith would be more interested in a night in the hood.

Speaking of titles: Isn't Sir Michael up for his KBE soon? Lord Jagger - that would fit nicely!

I don't agree. Had Keith wanted one, I have no doubt he would have been nominated by Blair at the same time as Mick. He didn't, so he wasn't. You don't get the offer if on soundings you are likely to refuse.

Maybe the question in the thread title was meant to say "would" rather than "should"? In any case, some of us already hold Keith in far higher esteem than could ever be bestowed on him by any grade of British honour!
