Ainsley Lister is great. He did some interesting covers of Jimi Hendrix. All or nothing is a very good album.

Yeah man, sad smiley I never heard exactly what the exact situation was with his health, or why he left, but that band was never the same after he was left.

I saw REO as a kid right before and into their peak as a real rock band in their heyday and it was a blast, then a couple of years after Gary left I saw him play at a bar with 200-300 people and we stood up front as he amazed us playing those mythical Gary licks 2 feet away from of our faces, it was awesome... and then I never heard from him again, but I always liked him.

Great thread. I just read them all to see if I would find people beyond the Stones, Eric, Jimi, and Stevie Ray. Glad to see Van Halen, Santana, Prince, Satriani, Alvin Lee (RIP), even Leo Kottke in there.

Did not see a couple of others who have cranked it -- Ted Nugent, George Thorogood.

I always liked Goin' Home from Woodstock by Alvin Lee and Ten Years After.

I´ve always thought that Clapton was Hendrix´s favourite player in England, because that was the first guitarist he wanted to meet when he arrived there 1966.

To anyone who forgot this one please take a few minutes and listen to Johnny Winter Mean Town Blues. Possibly the most complicated guitar solo ever>

Svartmer, what you posted is absolutely the truth. As is what I posted about
the "early days."

However, as JH came to know and listen to Beck over a period of three years, he became tremendously impressed. We discussed this quite a lot in 1970. When people gradually became impressed with Jimi and said or wrote, "He is the best, Jimi said: "Really, there is NO absolute best."

He thought Eric was "fantastic with the blues." But Jeff was imaginative in ways that Jimi found impressive. "It's all about tones," he used to say." Jeff is an...innovator."

Certainly, Eric was a true friend to Jimi in many ways before and
after his death.

Since this is THE STONES BOARD, perhaps I should mention that they were early
on great fans of Hendrix and he was delighted about this. He and Keith got
along great and Jimi thought Jagger was "amazing...one of a kind."

A great track indeed and I've seen him actually improve on the Blow by Blow performance in a couple of live concerts. If there is one thing about Mr. Beck, it's that he is constantly improving and you can almost always bet that his next performance is going to be better than his last. smoking smiley

Duane Allman's solo on Wilson Pickett's version of Hey Jude.
The solo on Bell Bottom Blues.... Must be Clapton.
Hendrix on All Along The Watchtower.
The Ya-Ya's soloes on Lil' Queenie and Sympathy.
The solo on Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way, even though I think the sound of that great song is ruined by the mixing. It's so messy, but when the solo starts building.... OH BOY!
Of course the Johnny B. Good solo.
Free Bird must be mentioned too.
