Larry Carlton, on Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne," is a favorite

Agree, one of my favourite YouTube videos, his playing is just sublime.

Most of the other ones I would choose have already been mentioned although I don;t think anyone has mentioned Carlos Santana's fret work on this....

The Comfortably Numb solo from Pulse is great(starts at 4:55):

I also love Chuck Berry's guitar playing in general, so pretty much any of his solos...

And yea, McCready's solo in Pearl Jam's Alive (3:38):

Yes I also like Prince covering "While my guitar gently weeps"; I wish he was louder in the mix. I still wonder what happens to his guitar at the end; he throws it in the air and it disappears!!!Magic Prince.

keith's solo on sympathy is the most brutal solo ever played..for me it's all about sound and tone..that lays bare the real emotion within the player. after that of course the timing and phrasing makes all the difference..and he nails that too on this one.

But yeah.. I haven't heard anything that rivals that little solo..it just kills

Then I like young Johhny winters soloing on the blues experiment (1969)..talk about bite!

Third that comes to mind, although I can't stand him now...think he's very confused..is Prince's solo on purple rain

Hendrix licks and solo on the wind cries mary is super sweet and perfect.

Joe Perry and Slash always get me too

Santana 3 is fantastic (also Neal Schon did a very good job), but I prefer Abraxas.

An absolute genius.
The way he approached a guitar solo was totally unique.

Some of my (officially released) faves...

Inca Roads (One Size Fits All)
King Kong (You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore - Vol 3 - Rainbow '71)
Rat Tomago (Sheik Yerbouti)
Black Napkins (Zoot Allures)
Willie The Pimp (Hot Rats)
Orange County Lumber Truck (Ahead Of Their Time)
Holiday In Berlin - Full Blown (Burnt Weeny Sandwich)
Sexual Harassment In The Work Place (Guitar)
Watermelon In Easter Hay (Joe's Garage)
Any Kind Of Pain (Broadway The Hard Way)
Montana (Overnite Sensation)
Marqueson's Chicken (Them Or Us)
Stuff Up The Cracks (Crusin' With Ruben & The Jets)
Hungry Freaks Daddy (Freak Out!)

Think I'd better stop there, this list could go on forever.

Just one more, please: Zomby Woof!

I think you shouldn't mess with one of the best blues solo of all time,
even Mick Taylor should be aware of that.
