Stray Cat Blues is pretty heavy, but metal-esque is not a description I'd give to any of the Stones tunes. Hard Rock at times is about as far as they've swung into the truly heavy. I wish the current Stones would actually try a bit harder to be harder, it fit them well and is sorely missing from the polished presentation of the tunes these days.

peace

thumbs up
second place goes to Gimme Shelter.

There is 'Heavy Metal' , and then there is what many refer to as 'Heavy', which is often used to describe bands like Soundgarden or Alice In Chains.

I think many are picking songs that are 'fast', and agreed, it is being picky, but still, 'fast' does not mean 'heavy' in rock terms. Hold Back and Fight are examples of 'fast' songs but certainly not 'heavy' by common music definition. One Hit would also not be considered 'heavy'. Stray Cat is probably the closest thing the Stones have to it (as a matter of fact, Soundgarden does a cover of that). Possibly, as someone pointed out, I would say Might As Well Get Juiced could be close, I see Dancing w/ Mr. D ... also close, maybe Whip Comes Down too. But for the most part, most of the choices would not be in the ballpark. Sorry, but I just thought this should be clarified, maybe this should be the 'fast' song thread.

Sure an early type is Bitch. I was so impressed when first heard, and thought the sound was somewhat modern on the record. Man, that intro is killing.

"Under the Radar" is son of "Child of the Moon"
"It Must Be Hell" is son of "Soul Survivor"
"Thru & Thru" has no children....yet !!!

Guys Great input, what a diverse lot we are, Taste is something, Class is everything.

here'e my three

1] Hold On To Your Hat.

2] Street Fighting Man - Live 1973 version

3] She Said Yeah

Oh hell I could go on - maybe we should compile a heavy album.

Surely it must be Sway. I love the drumming on this, a classic case of less is more. Heavy rock drummers would have ruined this track.

I would throw in "Gunface" as well. Granted, it has a funk twist, but it's a very heavy song.

Late 60s were simply super amazing for the Rolling Stones with greatest compositions of groovy Stones' songs!! Marvellous video, Mick's face paint and Brian Jones' groovy glasses...mind you I have exactly the same pair of glasses which is incredible, because I didn't think they made them in 60s and I got them in 2005 at a tropical holiday resort!! Band was Brilliant then-(still now)- with the fabulous Brian Jones performing, awesome times !!!

+The Foxy grandpa This is not from the NME concert of May 1968. The Stones performance at the NME has never been shown since it was first aired on Southern TV's Tony Blackburn Show and is presumed to have been wiped.. This performance is The Stones miming to a pre-recorded backing track for the JJF promo. Mick is singing live but the band are miming. It was directed by Michael Lindsey-Hogg who also directed The Beatles Hey Jude/ Revolution Promos (also Mimed) and Let It Be film.

Well, technically, it's the studio recording.

I agree that Might as Well get juiced has a real heavy sound. It kind of sounds like Nine Inch Nails to me.

When I see all these (rock!)songs named here I'm baffled.

Seems the Stones have always been a Heavy/metal band . .lol

Re: What's the "heaviest" Stones song?

Well,to me,the difference is obvious between their heavy songs like "Tie You Up" and regular rock songs like "Dancing With Mr. D" , "Tumbling Dice" , and "It Won't Take Long" etc. .

Rock band is just a general classification. They have many different types of songs.

The heavy tracks have plenty of guitar power chords. [en.wikipedia.org] tells us "Power chords are a key element of many styles of rock and especially heavy metal music."
