Mick Jagger Vocals LYL

I think the reason TD is slowed down is not necessarily because of Keith and
Ron Wood's groove but more because Jagger is mouthing the lyrics and slows down
the tempo of the song. His vocal delivery really through a curve on how many of
the songs grooved on the record.

mick's vocals on LYL are the absolute nadir of his career

I agree

I think there are shows from 75 and 76 that are much worse. LYL is not even that bad. The Cloud, IYCRM medley is @#$%& up. Happy is bad; and side 2. But again Side 3 is SO MUCH better.
The 75 show from MSG is terrible. The one with Cherry of Baby and ATPTB. It's Ain't too proud that IMO will always be the absolute worst I have evr heard Jagger acting. That constant "Billy, Billy" crap.

Oddly enough, I like that MSG show youre referring to (27th June). The El Mocambo stuff is an anomaly on LYL as it comes from '77 and its without exception, excellent. The vocals on side 4 - particularly on JJF - are an absolute abomination.

And the scary thing is a) there are a lot of vocal overdubs on the album and b) they recorded dozens of shows - so it could have been even worse

Yes Gazza, that is the weird thing: that show from 75 I mentioned is one of the shows I play a lot. As lousy (or funny) asd the vox are, the musci is excellent. That version of "Ain't too proud" is acvtually my favorite version of that tune. Cherry grooves better on that boot than on BAB.
And about LYL: for some reason when I think fo that album I almost always completely forget about side 4. Those songs (except for IORR) sound so obligatory add on. Yes there are some killer version but as a whole they leave me cold.

I never thought too hard about the vocals on LYL (my favourite official live album). No matter how many overdubs are present it certainly sounds 'live'. Jagger seems to be a bit of a perfectionist these days, maybe he wasn't so back in the mid 70's. I don't really care, it sounds good to me and SFTD is the absolute dogs bollocks.

oh it sounds live OK, thats not what I meant.

My point was if the vocals are that bad AFTER having some overdubbing done, they must have been worse beforehand

I really appreciate that album. Mick doesn't sing: he's THE MONKEY MAN. JAGGER : number one rapper forever.

I think during those the 75-76 tour there are times when Jagger sounded good and others where he is horrible. Some songs he just slurs on LA Forum. From what I read Mick was doing a lot of coke and other things and was often screwed up on stage, so that might have a little to do with the bad vocal nights.

Is it just me or does Tumbling Dice and It's Only Rock n Roll sound like they were also from El Mocambo? They sound so different than the rest of the Paris material...arena vs. club. Can anyone (especially with boots from these shows) comment, please?

I agree about Jagger's vocals on LYL being way too slurry, but my favourite versions of IORR and SFTD are the ones on this album...

I like his vocals on this one. I've said many times before that after 75-76 he slowed down on the freak angle. I like the sloppy Mick. He's more fun/ I mean, if you watch the videos from those tours he is just letting it all go.

I doubt that the crowd was really worried about his enunciation. They were probably into his dancing more. May be I'm wrong. Can anyone enlighten us if you really were worried about his vocals when you saw them on these tours?

I'm still amazed that Love You Live was released and the 78 recordings were not.

A much better live album could be culled from Handsome Girls and the Passaic '78 show.

Vocals? I thought he was having his teeth pulled and his prostate examined!
