Are you surprised that kids don't know the music of their parents and grandparents? That 70 year old's don't appeal to their musical sensibilities? That classic rock is the oldie music these days? That college age kids are a small minority at (most) Rolling Stones concerts?

I wonder if they would know who Keith Richards is?

Good thing the guitar is still the quentiessential instrument for live music. peace

This confirms my notion that "Moves Like Jagger" is the biggest Rolling Stones (-ish...) hit since Start Me Up...
The fact that the majority of college students in the United States are imbeciles is no news to me though (not much better in Europe, so don't worry).

I use a nearby university library regularly and I also regularly see the students on that campus wearing Beatles and Stones T-shirts and sweatshirts and tote bags.

My students know who McCartney and Jagger are. The sad part is that they do not know who Lyle Lovett, the Yardbirds, Them, and Wet Willie are.

Just for perspective, let the record be clear to those not living in America (and even those living in the US), that GMU, the university profiled in the video, is ranked the 3rd most conservative college/university in the whole damn country. These are not average American kids by any stretch. That's not to say that you wouldn't get a lot of the same blank-faced answers from kids at other colleges, but you surely wouldn't get as many.

Judging by this, a semi-educated guess would say not.

The generalisation by so many on this site really disheartens me.

Wouldn't you say historical facts (wars, geography, etc), which most Americans are bad at, is quite different from recognizing pop/rock cultural references (Jagger, Macca), especially youth? Not an apples to apples comparison.

I'd say the interviewer was doin' a pretty good job of picking out the interviewees. Getting paid to scout the beach for such subjects seems far from stupid. peace

Baby Boomers (of which I am one) are so full of themselves they think that just because they like something it must be so great that people living 500 years from now will think it's great too. Bull shit. I'm GLAD these kids don't give a flying f--- about the Beatles and the Stones. Why should they? They need to find their own heros, even if we think they suck.
