Might just go for this one as well. Had a copy of "Sucking" on vinyl before I ever heard the Some Girls album. It's a good song on Some Girls but the live version beats it easily IMO.

Atlantic City 1989

Start Me Up

That one is the best performance I've ever heard. I don't know why I didn't list that. I edited my list with this one instead of the one on FLASHPOINT. Ronnie's playing from the Atlantic City PPV is the best he's ever done... that I've heard, anyway.

Generally speaking, any live version of Midnight Rambler.
From Ya Ya's up until the most recent versions (and everything in between), it's a prefect template for the Stones to do their magic.
Whether it's with MT or Ronnie, with or without Bill, etc., etc., etc, it holds up no matter what the band line-up is.
Unlike Sympathy, Gimme Shleter, et al, it's the one song from their that catalogue that transcends every time...can't really think of a 'bad' version.

I agree about Midnight Rambler live. An operatic blues masterpiece. With rollicking barrel house blues, slow blues, and jamming blues. Great song they do so well live. And I love how long it is live, where you get to see them stretch out and jam.

Indeed, Midnight Rambler almost never fails to blow minds. Something magic happens when they do that tune; they almost go time-travelling back to bygone years when they were downright dangerous live.

I was thinking about "Brown Sugar".It's one of the greatest Stones cuts. But due to placement in setlist, it never got it's due.
When it was used as opener it was in their best, most awesome years, where it was more a back drop to the whole "OMG it's THEM! And where they are all parading around in shades and jackets. and still basically getting situated. And from then on it has always been way at the end of set, with a lot of crowd "Whoo's" and confetti. It would be great, to see them play this today as # 5 in a set.

Dancing with Mr. D from Brussels in 1973.

Taylor just sizzles on that song like a big fat steak on a hot grill.

Midnight Rambler Brussels 73. Absolutely powerful and stunning. Taylor's screaming solo and Keith's great riffing.

They also opened with it a lot on the Licks Tour. Not as aggressive as in 1972-73 of course but still pretty cool. And speaking of it, on Havana Moon...it's about time Woody played that lick during the intro that follows Keith's opening chords!

That is a great one. It's a bit faster and has an attitude - and even gets a bit rocked out.

There are oh so many.

What comes first to my mind is HTW (LYY) and Midnight Rambler (Havana Moon).

Those are good choices. Gotta say that MR on Havana Moon is absolutely smoking! When they get into the fast jam part, you could easily imagine it was a performance from decades ago and I gotta give props to Mr. D. Jones. His bass playing absolutely propels this version to a whole other level.

'Miss You' Totally Stripped Brixton Academy, London, July 19th 1995

This particular recording only is unique to me. I am going off the CD, my DVD is
in temporary storage.
I mention this as I cannot back up what I'm hearing visually
but this version is structured different.
First, Charlie Watt. He stands out here and hear.
I feel his strength when he bashes hard, yet his cymbal work
at the same time- love it.
And, Bobby Keys. He wails and we miss you (little pun)
Heh heh heh lastly, Jagger.
He's pissed off, and I like it.
'SHUT THE FVCK UP'
(is it funk or fvck? depends who's in the car)
'What's the matter with me what's the matter with you?!'
It's good.
I said it before: chicks dig 'Miss You'

ETA: oh dear right after I wrote this, one of Mick's X's who shall remain nameless but hint she often posts herself clothes- less,
just did a gossipy piece/ interview about him w/ daily mail.
Shut the please up indeed.
Doesn't look good- she was 29, this one's 29... Mick Mick Mick.

Well put. The essence of the live Stones experience. I see Midnight Rambler like a car - their old Stonesmobile if you like - that is taken out for a spin and given a good workout.

whew I get overwhelmed, honestly, watching them live - I have so much video purchased I haven't watched, the 'Totally Stripped' I OCD'd on watching
'Beast of Burden' Keith's acoustic slayed me,
'Like a Rolling Stone' cover I don't like anywhere else,
but, I think because it's mainly been recorded tracks/I missed so much live
anyway, like this 'Gimme Shelter' their 'official' release Bridges to B 1997
They blow me away, lol.
