Vredenburg Utrecht 2003

Since this brilliant show came up on another topic and some of the best memories of my life originate from it let's see if the attendees on this forum can help relive the experience!
There are very few pictures, let alone video's of this unique show. Security was extreme. Are there people here that have pictures or memories to share?
On youtube the snippet from the news can be found, but that's it.
share your memories and pictures!

By the way: the venue had been completely rebuilt. Exept the original room the stones played in. The one keith loved so much he wanted to fold it up and take it with him! He still can. Come back for it!

Goodnight douwew,
The "LUCKY ME" wristband from Utrecht 2003 is enlisted and hanging on my wall at home.
Vredenburg 2003 was a day after Ahoy, Rotterdam. Was this the last time The Stones played two days in a row. A little van passed us on the way home from Rotterdam and in it were Bobby Keys, Lisa Fisher, Blondie Chaplin etc. waving at us.smiling smiley
I was at both shows, Vredenburg and Ahoy by cheer luck. Both are among my top 10 of the 35 shows I have been to from 1982-2014.

I quote myself from [www.iorr.org]

My second clubshow, great memories, after having screwed up the presale with my
creditcard - I got there with the help of EH, a Dutch guy who phoned the people
at the ticketcenter and so on. Thanks again, Erwin spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

It was not only the show where Keith messed up BS, it was also Jagger exchanging
pieces of small papers with a young woman at the side of the stage. The old devil!

A great room, a great crowd and the last show of my Licks tour. What a great
way to stop then.

I remember being disappointed about hearíng
Satisfaction as an encore, but´s that´s a
kind of luxury problem.

And one of those hands could be mine as well!

Spent the entire day sharing waiting in line duties with a friend near the front door.
Between my waiting shifts, I meandered around enjoying some fine herb and then eating a giant Dutch pancake to satisfy the munchies.
When they opened the doors, they herded us in small groups like sheep through a maze-like series of rooms.
At one point they made us all sit on the floor of a particular room before we were allowed to proceed forward.
It was quite strange...a miltary/prison-like procession, but I suppose it prevented a stampede.
Finally made entrance into the sacred room and made a beeline towards front center.
About 30 VIP fans were already in there, but we were still able to get as close as possible eventually snuggling in right in front of Mick.
Of the 4 theater/club shows I saw that tour this was easily the best , and ultimately it has become the best Stones show I have ever seen anywhere for a variety of reasons.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

While this news clip is in Dutch, there's some cool stuff to see here - the waiting outside venue, the herding of people into venue("no cameras"!), and some great performance footage.

And another edited clip of No Expectations and JJF.

Very interesting to read those memories and see the pictures. This show is my favourite bootleg. Especially the sheering for Charlie and the public singing "saint of me" long after the song ended. And the guitar of Keith starting once again. Wish I been there. Love to see a video from that show.

Yes I was there too and the night before at Ahoy, Rotterdam.
Waiting for hours and hours in Utrecht in front of the doors was rewarded with one of the last exrra tickets.

Great memories, great show indeed.

Let it rock!

They were filming during that show, probably to fill the blanks in the Olympia show used for 4 flicks.
Don't know if they recorded the complete show.

Great footage!

I note that Utrecht apparently doesn't have women, at least none that are stones fans.

What a testosterone fest!

I just give birth to my son then, otherwise I was probably there too.
Same son was this summer in Belgium for the Torhout Werchter concert.(and loved it!)

Looking at that setlist I notice "Pierre on Keys" for "Like a Thief in the Night".

Would that be Pierre, Keith's guitar tech? Strange the Stones allowing a crew member to play, maybe this was at Keith's insistence and a nod to his loyal employee? A throwback to the days of Stu? Does this happen often? peace

Yes it was Pierre:-)

Same as he did from time to time during BTB tour 97-98:-)

The song was developed from a riff played by Pierre (co-credited as author of the song, btw). Probably that's why he was asked to play on it.

Some more details:

Extremely wild audience.

Extremely tight security as if nuclear weapons were at stake.

Ronnie wanting an extra encore because of the wild crowd, but Mick Saïd 'no'.

Saint Of Me sung for minutes by everybody, after it ended.

Mick picking up a phonenumber thrown by a woman from the side.

Yes, I remember....The crowd loved Saint Of Me! It was a surprise in 2003 (a regular one 97-98) and perfect for Utrecht, The Netherlands because western democracy was started there with "The Union Of Utrecht 1579 or so" thumbs updrinking smiley
And every STONES believer knows there are no saints.

One of my two favorite Stones shows I ever attended and I'm pretty sure the only one at which they did not play "Miss You".

Also my favorite opening act: Vue. A particularly pleasant queue as well. An all-around marvelous day!

Utrecht really was a great show. It began even the day before with fans starting a list for all those without a ticket and camping outside the venue. It was good being on that list when leaving for Rotterdam just to take chances. Coming back from the Ahoy show the list was gone and a new one got started, however this was settled and a lot of people happy in the end receiving the Lucky Me wristband. Security was very tight but friendly, however more than one bootleg has surfaced...

the greatest rock and roll band in the world - definitely
