'97 or '98 ?

Which performances of this song are considered to be the best ?

I like the St. Louis 1997-version. Keith on good form.

St. Louis is solid indeed. I like Bremen '98 as well a bit more raunchier.

Cheers,

Flip the Switch never did it for me live. Onstage it sounded like they're holding back because there's 2 hours left in the show and they need to pace themselves. The studio version holds NOTHING back. Having said that, I'd go with Bremen.

One of the few songs where the studio version is sloppier than the live versions.

Love both, though.

Agreed, I love both too. But then, in my top 10 Stones albums, Bridges is one of my favourites.

Imo it was quite the oposite. Night after night, the band probably finished the song totally out of breath...

Too bad it isn't as good as Rip This Joint.

Compare Switch to Monkey man. Both songs are built after a killer riff by Keith. Only that with Monkey they did a great job, while with the other ... mmmmm .... not quite.

That riff deserves better. No wonder live, the best part of the song is the mini jam at the end.

I agree, but it's a shame that he doesn't play the riff properly in that jam. I wonder why he changed it from the double-string-approach he plays in the beginning and almost throughout, to the more standard five-string Em7-thing toward the end...
