The reports frOm LeMonde.fr are quite cold. He says that it took time for the crowd to get hot.. And then i read from some of the iorrians that yesterday was one of the best stadium concerts in years. What's that? The famous gap between us and the real world?

Not "cold" at all, the O2/1 felt a bit "cold", not last night!!!

As for "Le Monde", well they are the French NY Times...they pride themselves in being "serious"/"critical"/"clinical", it works most of the time, not really for rock music though ;-)

The do bring up an interesting thing, that some of the intermissions did seem a tad long at times, can't remember for which songs exactly (before IORR?) but I did notice them. That's because they change guitars, I don't think it's to catch their breath but it does distract a bit.

C'était comment les Rolling Stones au Stade de France?

Les Rolling Stones au Stade de France le vendredi 13 juin.

"Ce soir on va vous zlataner." Mick Jagger ne lève plus le pied aussi haut que le footballeur suédois, mais il est d'humeur badine. "La France va gagner la Coupe du Monde contre l'Angleterre", dira-t-il plus tard, toujours dans un français impeccable. C'est facile de faire plaisir à 80 000 personnes. 50 ans après leur premier concert à Paris, les Rolling Stones ont rempli vendredi 13 juin le Stade de France, sans doute pour la dernière fois de leur longue carrière. Mick Jagger soufflera ses 71 bougies le 26 juillet, Keith Richards, lui, le 18 décembre. A croire qu'il est impossible pour un rocker de prendre sa retraite. Les Vieux du Stade n'arrivent pas en déambulateurs sur scène mais ils ont troqué leurs boots contre des paires de baskets aux semelles épaisses. le guitariste a lui définitivement privilégié le confort en débarquant en veste de jogging.

En 2014, le groupe de rock n'a plus rien d'un agent provocateur. L'odeur de souffre qui l'accompagnait s'est depuis longtemps dissipée. Les Rolling Stones appartiennent au patrimoine. Ses titres sont des classiques. Son concert un véritable menu best-of, avec Jumpin' Jack Flash en entrée et (I can't get no) Satisfaction en dessert. Entre ses deux incontournables, deux heures de blues, de rock, voire de disco (ce Miss You honni par les fans purs et durs à l'époque, aujourd'hui repris en choeur). Il faut quelques tours avant que la machine chauffe. Mais ensuite on ne boude pas son plaisir. Mick Jagger ne s'économise pas, à la différence peut être de son "Glimmer Twin" qui étincelle de manière alternative.

A mi-chemin, Keith Richards prend le micro pour deux chansons, You got The Silver et Can't be seen. C'est le moment que le public choisit dans les gradins pour s'assoir ou pour aller remplir les gobelets collectors (7,50€ la pinte de bière + 2,50€ pour le godet plastique, comptez 35€ pour un t-shirt).

Entre Mick et Keith les échanges sont réduits au mininum. Une rapide passe d'armes harmonica-guitare pendant Out of Control et c'est à peu près tout. Il y a presque plus d'interactivité entre le chanteur et Mick Taylor, guitariste des Stones de 1969 à 1974, invité à faire rugir sa Gibson sur Midnight Rambler. Du côté des cuivres, Mick Jagger salue un autre vieux compère, le saxophoniste Bobby Keys, qui porte une superbe chemise cow boy. Pas de signe de Bill Wyman en revanche. Puisqu'on parle chiffon, mention spéciale à Ron Wood et son perfecto rouge assorti à ses Nike. D'ailleurs, il se fait charrier par Jagger: "Tu as fait du shopping chez Tati". Mais revenons à la musique. Avec les incontournables Start Me Up, Sympathy for the devil ou Brown Sugar, l'un des points d'orgue de cette soirée fut l'intense Gimme Shelter et la performance vocale tempétueuse de la choriste Lisa Fischer, héroïne du documentaire oscarisé Twenty Feet from Stardom. Bien qu'arrière-grand-père, Mick Jagger a toujours le feu sacré. C'est peut être ça le sens du nom de cette tournée, baptisée 14 on Fire.

Peu avant 21h 30, des cercles rouges apparaissent sur les trois grands écrans en haute définition. Gros plan sur Keith Richards, qui d’un geste sec balance le riff d’introduction de Jumpin’ Jack Flash. Précis, cinglant. Frisson. Quelque chose fait penser que Richards et ses camarades, le chanteur Mick Jagger, le batteur Charlie Watts, le guitariste Ron Wood et le bassiste Darryl Jones – arrivé en remplacement de Bill Wyman en 1993 –, sont en forme et en accord avec l’intitulé de leur tournée mondiale, 14 On Fire. L’année 2014 en feu. Trente dates réparties entre le 21 février et le 22 novembre. Dans la suite de la tournée 50 & Counting, en 2012-2013, du cinquantenaire de la création du groupe. Trente dates là aussi. Tranquille comparé aux cadences du passé. Tranquille mais pas pépère. Loin de là.

Jumpin’ Jack Flash, You Got Me Rocking, It’s Only Rock ’n’Roll et Tumbling Dice pour caler les choses, faire entrer le claviériste Chuck Leavell, les choristes Lisa Fischer et Bernard Fowler et les saxophonistes Tim Ries et Bobby Keys (vétéran de toutes les tournées depuis 1970). La bonne impression se confirme. Gaillards, fringants, en avancée collective : Jagger, vocalement très sûr, fait le spectacle, sans en faire trop ; Richards et Wood se complètent, prennent des relais solistes cadrés, rageurs ; Watts, tout impassible et l’air ailleurs qu’il paraisse, tient la mécanique à chaque frappe.

One word to describe the show: "encroyable", or as we say in Northern California..."BAD ASS"
We were at the Stade de France show in 2007, which we also found magical (personal fave from that show was Lisa Fisher killing James Brown's "I Go Crazy"...)
To begin, watching the crowd - so different from the states: perhaps 1 in 75 people wearing tongues, and a *much* younger average age. We now have a nice collection of 3 10 Euro RS plastic glasses...

I won't go into any of the technical issues if the show (though it was pretty funny when they pulled the plug on the opening band, and poor lone drummer was all that could be heard in the massive stadium).

So our last show was Zurich - the fans sat through the entire show (not pelouse) except for the 2 teenagers in front of us and us) until Satisfaction - this was a very different experience from any of the previous 20+ shows we've seen).

But last night - from the opening note of JJF til the finale - the Paris crowd rocked it! Dancing, singing, following Mick's instructions
Highlights:
Wild Horses (the petite French woman next to me in tears of joy - showed me her Wild Horses tattoo)
Honky Tonk Woman - no need for the band to sing! The SDF audience esp the rear pelouse was a sea of waving arms and beautiful voices!
Out of Control - a personal fave since Jan 1999 Oakland
MR & GS - you've read above as to how incredible these songs were performed! The unity of Keith, Ronnie & Mick Taylor on MR was phenomenal.

All in all an Awesome show...then the hour plus in line for the Metro back to Paris centre. It would have been awful if it weren't for the calm joy of the 1000s in line with us.

I found out that two guys on the cover band at La Galerie de L' Instant were Charlie's drum tech and Mick's guitar tech!

Eeek, did they really?! As in on purpose?
Can't be easy for a band to recover from something like that, poor tykes

It was impossible to tell whether the warm up act was a real band or a comedy show.
It was like watching Spinal Tap in a way. The only difference is that Tap is actually funny, The Struts (?) was just... I don't know what to say.

To resume one incredible show. Just fantastic. Their best stade de france at this time. Perfect setlist. Imperial Jagger. Magic Interaction between him and us.
To inform you, the official "Le Monde" is just shit.

Paris was wonderful. 80.000 great fans, the Stones played as if a DVD was being recorded, and some french logistic chaos afterwards. This is how the Stones have defined Stadium Rock. Wauw.

And I payed a rib for early entry, and got a great place halfway along the catwalk.

Here are some of my pictures (in no specific order...).

I made recordings as well, but did not give it too much attention and am looking for someone who can mix something enjoyable out of it...

I will qualify the show last night : "Almost perfect".
After Lisbon and Berlin, 2 fantastic performances, Paris was for me a little bit better. My 66th show!
They just forgot to play Route 66 (LOL) and Worried about you, the song i wanted to hear.
The weather, the audience around me, my family with me, the sound (some echos sometimes), my spot Keith's side and of course the band, everything was perfect.
I'll never forget Midnight Rambler when Mick did all the "oh yeah" part some 3-4 meters in front of me.
And Mick's face when the audience re sing Miss you was hilarating, between pleasure, surprise and proudness.
Other image : Mick takes a rose on the cat walk and comes back to the main stage looking at his own image on the big screen just to verify he does not look too ridiculous with the flower in his hand.
Really a great show, i wonder how it will be in Werchter, my last show (ever?).

Aw, come on. Don't be so hard on the Struts. I thought they were pretty good - I liked their version of "Royals". They did a good job and many in the audience seemed to enjoy it.

By the way, did anyone have seats in the nosebleeds? Were those speaker towers able to get good sound for those in the third tier?

The ultimate show ? No, but a perfect one. A nice weather, a great crowd which sang along many times responding with enthiusiasm. A perfect setlist ( of course one could doubt about some of them, but not for the same ones). I saw this band many times. I even attended the famous 1973 Brussels show dedicated to the french ( was 16 at that time). But I must write it was a great, great farewell to this country. Keith was in one of his great days. His riifs were perfect. Mick was in a good shape and did nice chat with the audience. Chahrlie was Charlie. Special dedication to Lisa, Bernard and Bobby. The momentum was certainly the combination of Midnight Rambler and Gimme Shelter : we were in heaven. Only This Band can provide those musical moments. Thanks to them and for all these years. They sincerely love France. I am sure they were Happy by the welcome they received and deserved
