Just to clarify it was people behind us, who we did not know.

I understand that. You have no control over these people, but if you complain, you have a slight chance of finding yourself upgraded, it's happened to me before.

Apologies i read it wrong.

Must remember that for next time.

..No, you didn't read it wrong, I just didn't explain myself clearly or fully, but hey, it's all good and it's only Rock n Roll smileys with beer

Just got back to my hotel not far from the modest Metro Arena in Newcastle.

In short? go and see them.

Longer? I must admit I was worried. In many YT clips Rogers voice sounded weak. Pete's palying sounded lazy. I saw them for the last time in Ireland 2013 - great show but passive crowd. Did'nt know what to expect.

Well. They rocked! The crowd was dominantly what some may call "geezers" - many rough looking man and woman dressed as "mods", some in a whole family line of "mods" (kids-teenagers-geezers). The arena was some 75% full, maybe less.

Had seats in about the 13th row. Best seats in The Who gig since 2002 in RAH (where the late Entwistle played his famous bass solo they now use at 5:15).

People in the ground floor stood up all through the show.

Pete and Roger interacted pretty much with the crowd, teasing them occasionally about issues I guess local's will understand (like calling the place Sundarland, or feeling pitty for them due to their weather, which is crappy I may say...). Pete had a thing with the shouts by the crowd ("Go Pete" etc.). During Who Are You he had guitar problems and instead of playing was busy making death threats ("Cut your throat" sign...) to the roady off the stage. Later in the show he was pissed about his guitar, took it off and throw it on the stage (it wasnt damaged, the roady handed it back to him and he continued playing). During on of the Quadrophenia songs (I think) Pete started bleeding from his fingers after one windmill, stained the white plate on his guitar and the cameraman was clearly focusing on that (like in the Woodstock "See me feel me").

They tended to extend several songs which I recall being shorter in the past (5:15, Baba Oriley).

Played Pictures of Lily!!! loved it.

Listening to you, 5:15, Baba Oriley, Pictures of Lily were excellent.

Sparks to my opinion should be dropped at its current "appearance". Lost all its charm (played live) and only the skeleton remained.

The camera focused on Zack Starkey and I said to myself "god he looks old!". I recall him looking so young in 2000-2002, when I saw them from front seats for the last time... funny, ha? even the drummer who joined them for their old age reunion is an aging man...

Saw them at Newcastle on Tuesday night. Long story short, if you're a fan of The Who in any form, just get yourself down and see them.

Having said that, I preferred last year's Quadrophenia show. I'll admit I'm biased in that I think Quadrophenia is the best thing The Who have done. Zak Starkey's return made a major difference this time however; his playing compliments The Who faaaaaar more than Kenney Jones ever did.

Pete never seemed to be happy with the sound. As Wroclaw mentioned, he stopped playing during Who Are You and starting screaming to the roadies, making death threats. As soon as the song was finished, he was off stage for a couple of minutes. Wouldn't have liked to be on the receiving end of that. He returned to say "Sometimes when you f***ers come in, you f*** up the sound with your fat flabby bodies". The same happened again much later in the set during Eminence Front; he took off his guitar and threw it on the ground; not a light put down, not sliding it across the floor. He threw it on the ground.

Highlights for me were Join Together, 5:15, Bell Boy, and Eminence Front. It's certainly a diverse setlist. Having said that, as much as I love Magic Bus, it just doesn't work as the final song. Atmosphere is just as important as the song choice and actual performance, and when the entire place erupts during Won't Get Fooled Again, it makes more sense to just stick Magic Bus before it. It also doesn't help that it ended on a slight downer with Pete explaining that "This song is total rubbish. If you know what this song is about, please email me. I'm serious, I'd love to know. Send me an email at [email protected]"

A Quick One, While He's Away was a nice addition, yet this was prime toilet and beer breaktime for most people; which I will never, ever comprehend.

Roger's final words of the night were "Be safe, be happy, and of course... Be Lucky!". Strange choice of words in my opinion, considering Be Lucky wasn't even in the set.

I said at the beginning that if you're a fan of The Who, just get yourself down and go. You know what, even if you've only heard My Generation, GO. Simply put, chances to see bands like The Stones, Who, McCartney are running very, very slim these days. We will never experience a musical landscape like those that emerged in the 60's again. Ever.

When they're gone, they're gone. So just get down & enjoy the show.

Pete seemed to have a bad night in Newcastle judging by his foul mood.

We all have bad days so hope the shows that are left on this leg of the tour have Pete in a better mood and things go more smoothly.

The band are obviously in great form and really looking forward to Hyde Park next summer. >grinning smiley<

I thought magic bus was a strange choice to finish the show off with and said exactly the same as you about wont get fooled again.

I am sure roger said the same at the end of the Brum concert.

Just got back to my hotels near the Echo Arena after the sound check I witnessed as part of the "Soundcheck package" I spoiled myself with.

WOW - worth any penny!

Took many clips, might upload them later.

The seriously (20 minutes maybe) reharsed "My Generation as the "regulars" of these soundchecks asked for it... guess it would be played.

Roger laughed when people asked for "be lucky"...

As for Newcastle - here is the part in Who Are You where Pete got angry about the roady...

So glad the soundcheck was worth going to Wroclaw. Good for you mate.

Hope they do My Generation and Be Lucky tonight, or else on any of the few gigs left for this year.

Just seen those two clips where Pete is obviously well pissed off, and who can blame him.

He's trying to sing and play lead guitar and technical things are just not right.

Have a great night tonight Wroclaw and anyone else who is going. smileys with beer

What a show tonight at Liverpool!

Had FOS location. Unlike in Newcastle people stood at the barrier. The crowd were a bit younger then those at Newcastle. Quite calm people (no one complained about those standing as unlike Newcastle many at the ground floor were sitting). Half of the crowd at the front seats were half drunk, which made them friendly, though I didn't like so much the bear hugging they gave me 2 or 3 times smiling smiley

Sound was super. Pete's guitar was loud and crisp as it should be.

Pete was relaxed through most of the evening but his moment of rage came during 5:15 when he suddenly took his guitar off, threw it on the ground and jumped on it (!)...

During Pinbal Wizard Pete stepped on a cord and collapsed into his mic, getting out of the picture for some minute. He signaled his brother to take the lead but ST's guitar was not tuned for this song so PW ended up being a wreck.

The crowd didn't tease Pete and the "personal" interaction with the crowd was much less then in Newcastle. Pete did say that Liverpool is the only UK city with an airport that is named after a proper person...

5:15 was great.

My Generation played and was great too.

Also liked Listening to you that was really fast and rocked.

Anyway - great great show. Great crowd in Liverpool! great Arena. Super location... The arena us just a small bridge from my hotel.

Short clip from the soundcheck:

wtf? What a spoiled brat he can be. The guitar sounded fine to me, c'mon Pete be a pro and work though the problems without a friggin' temper tantrum, it was probably just your damaged ears anyway.

Was Roger playing guitar on that tune too? Like in the original MTV video?

And Pete's antics during Who Are You are equally awful, I mean he really left the rest of the guys out there in the cold. I love The Who but it sounds like they needed a coupla of extra weeks of rehearsal.

peace

At least he still cares enough to get angry. So let's just let him rage, rage, and not go gentle into that good night. It's part of the spontaneity one should expect from a 'Oo show, which has always been hit or miss right from the beginning. If they become too "pro" it would just be overly choreographed and predictable. Call him what you like, but he's anything but boring.

I met today a bunch of American's who follow the band through this tour in the UK, always on "Sound Check" packages (Roger recognises them and talk to them as if they really know each other...). They told me Pete always does these things, also in sound checks (this tour).
Today at the sound check he came in the middle, and all knew that he would. Roger even joked about it saying that Pete wont come before 5...
He has that "thing" - which I'm not 100% sure that is ALL spontanious. Roger behaves like a person whose been moderated by life but Pete is Pete I guess...

The Stones and The Who have always had that sloppiness at times where it doesn't always run like a machine.
Things can go wrong, and do at times ,but it is all part of the charm of these two great bands.
You still come away from each gig buzzing for days after.
Wish The Kinks would get back together again and I'm sure we would see the same from them. >grinning smiley<

My 13 year old was singing "Who Are You" the other day, I asked how he knew that and if he knew who it was, said "It's The Who and I learned it playing Rock Band".

He then said he'd like to see them sometime.

I had kind of lost interest after Entwistle died. But having not seen them since the '82 and '87 tours, I happened to wonder by the Scottrade Center box office here in St. Louis over lunch today and asked what's the cheapest tickets they have a pair of. Much to my amazement she pulled up 2 tickets for $79! Not each...for the pair!

Figured my kid might as well see the trifecta of the British invasion of classic rock and roll (took him to see the Stones last year, and he's seen half the Beatles in McCartney a couple years ago, and Ringo just a couple weeks ago)!

So glad to be hearing all the great reviews here!

Unfortunately,as some of our favourite bands are getting even older than some of us, health becomes a big issue.

Almost went for a ticket on 18th even though not back in London till late afternoon from Spain.

I do feel for fans who have to travel and hotel booked etc. and hope things financially don't work out too bad.

Got my tix for Hyde Park so see yer all there. thumbs up

What?

Pete was in a cold already in Liverpool - is it he whom is the sick band member.

Wish them all the best...

At least I'm glad I had a feeling I shouldnt aim for the London gig's but rather to the earlier ones - despite having to travel really alot to Newcastle and Liverpool... (but then I got to see Durham which I suspected I might never visit). Feel lucky as this trip was terribly expensive.

What I saw on The Who FB page was problems with Rogers' voice. He's got plenty of time to rest it over Christmas ,unless he has a singalong at his local boozer.

Hope to see you and anyone else from IORR at Hyde Park next summer, June 26th, and The Stones playing soon after in London. smileys with beer
