I realize Becks been around forever. What songs is he famous for though and what is it exactly that makes him as popular as he still seem's to be?
he is one of the few people who is popular simply for playing guitar. i don't think he really has a signature tune that keeps him popular

Page can still sling a mighty guitar riff. And Mick Taylor as well. Clapton too.

Is it like Bob Dylan & The Band (Jeff Beck & ZZ Top), they're just playing his songs because he is the star here...maybe 4 or 5 ZZ Top songs when Jeff is off stage having a beer and changing shirt...

By whom? I saw him the last year, it was an amazing show. It was the first time I saw him and I went mostly out of curiosity, since while I always appreciated his guitar playing, I found his stuff sort of boring. But I was absolutely impressed by the show. I will see him again this June a I can't wait really. The ticket for his show in Vienna arrived in one package together with the Stones's ticket, by the way :-)

Going to see Jeff Beck tonight in Tokyo. 5th Row, slighly off to the left side so I can watch his fingers fly across the frets.

By Keith... of all people
But that was years ago, though.

That should be great ! Wonder what he'll be playing, maybe some new material from the album he mentioned to Rolling Stone in February. The tour started in Osaka on Friday but I haven't found any setlists so far. Think I'll try to catch in Paris...

Thanks! How do the new songs sound like? He told RS that he'd found a "new style" or something like that...

thought he was horrific with the Stones - "im going down" - Gary Clark et al were much much better.

The 1 he played on the Brian Wilson tour had a very Middle Eastern feel. Was interesting & I liked it. His violin player is great.

VIP packages for several dates went on sale this morning but the meet and greet is apparently just ZZ Top.

I agree. He was playing it like he does with his own band and seemed to lose sight of the fact that he was playing with the Stones. Keith stepped up and gave him a lesson in subtle dynamics. Never thought I'd see the day.

There will be seperate Jeff Beck VIP packages as well, which would include sitting in on his soundcheck, exclusive poster, etc.

Thanks, Hairball, I saw that after I posted. The price I saw was $250 for second row, sound check and mementos. No meet and greet with Jeff (I've met him already, very nice guy). Unfortunately I'm going to pass because I'm not a big ZZ Top fan and the venues aren't near me and are too big to make it worth my time and money. I was hoping Jeff would come back to the Beacon as he's been there on his last two go rounds in NYC and it really suited him.

The violin player (Lizzie Bell?) is out, which suits me as I didn't really care for it in every song.

I didn't think Jeff's style in "I'm Going Down" was a good match for the Stones. In fact, I think Keith actually showed Jeff up in that song.
This is a link to the audio from a Tokyo gig. Not great quality but gives you an idea of what the new band sounds like. Interesting to see Jeff working with another guitar player again.
