HARDCORE PERFECT TUNE
ZZ Top rip off.
Not even sure if Ze Top, as they're known in France, were even going in 72??

Hey Doxa, come on amigo. No need to get angry because of a few idiots out there. We still need your well considered critical faculties. Been looking forward to what you really think about this one.

So the idea of discussing - that is, in the very sense of the word - about the music, and the Stones activities in the past, and probably in the future - is something that has not much point or room here. Let's say, I'm not a right kinf of fan, or, actually, a fan at all.
Yeah, I do love "Shake Your Hips" but to say why includes also a hint why I don't consider some of their other doings as high, so that would be, in the end, 'nay-saying', which shouldn't belong to the arsenal of a 'real' fan. You see, this is 'self-moderating'.
This used to be fun, but it is not any longer. You know, discussing music freely. Like one adult to another. But we all get old, and probably I am getting tired too, and can't any longer stand the atmosphere I feel I have lately more and more have difficulties to cope with. So, let me diplomatically say I feel happy for the 'cheerleader section' - let they have their field day now!. They, with the authoritian guide of the moderator, have won!

What the hell is matter what does it sounds like? It is recorded some 43 years ago, while I was some 4 years old, and the point to be a Rolling Stones fan and contribute in this site is is "to be as close as possible to The Rolling Stones or a Rolling Stone". This track is something dead years old, recorded damn faraway where I live, and it has nothing to do with the Rolling Stones are today, as they are ought be as a an object of fandom, and thereby, discussion, so who cares.
It is just music, just music, yesterday's papers.
Now, isn't the "report this message" an tempting option, you REAL Rolling Stones fans?
Oh yeah, sorry I forget to say... Of course, it is a "great" track - like anything The Rolling Stones have done. And ever will do. I just love Justin Biev... oh sorry.. The Rolling Stones... blah blah blah.. kill teh nay say-sayers (million emoticons), etc. etc.

I beg to disagree here Doxa. I can understand what you mean, but discussing the music freely is as far as I know not any issue at all. Let the cheerleaders alone, they're not worth reading or reacting. The whole 'private matter' issue has had some strange effect here, but don't let it influence you too much. This band has a history since 1963 and every period is important. The whole 'fan' issue is a non issue, something for people under 20 years old. It's all about the music and what influences it. So of course we'll curious how and at which degree the recent events will have an impact on the band.
It seems our pal Dandie has gone (temporarily?) too, I don't know why, him being a super positivo. As for me, I love the presence of Dandie, His Majesty and other great posters, amongst whom yourself of course.

Yeah, it seemed Dandie got quite fed up last week. I even appealed to Doxa in a different thread to contact his buddy to bring him back.
Seems Doxa is suffering a similar malaise!

It's probably the Northern Disease.
But hey, speak for yourself: I didn't get a tiny "bit sensitive after last week". It takes much more than that to make my hips shake.

Anyone have the early version, with a lead guitar, playing for another minute til the band ends it?
edit:
I think I've found it.

I've always preferred this version to the Exile one. It's looser and swings more. I just think the Exile version is flat sounding. I don't hate it but to me Shake Your Hips is the weakest track on side 1. They should've kept the feel of the outtake.

Wow...never heard this one before. I also like it better.

Side one of Exile on Main Street is as perfect a sequence of songs as you'll ever find on any album. They spell P-A-R-T-Y T-I-M-E large and from Rocks Off to Tumbling Dice we're taken on a rock'n'roller coaster ride across the southern states of America.
And Hip Shake is the pivotal connecting piece of the jigsaw, joining the Stones' own take on southern boogie and juke joint soul to a classic slice of r'n'b that just scratches and shakes its way through these sultry grooves.
And ain't that just an incredible rhythm Keith gets going here. It's tight but loose, funky but chic. It's a riff that could happily go on for ages (and probably did) allowing Mick Taylor room to roam and push the song ever onwards.
It's also so evocative of the deep south that you can almost smell the bourbon on Keith's breath and perhaps even the chicken fried in bacon grease cooking in the next room. Rock'n'roll doesn't get much better than this.

Good, but I'll stick wih the Exile version. It feels just fine and it leaves me wanting more...

But you know, I have bullshitted here so much during the last 15 years or so, that there aren't actually much left to say.... So me being a bit more silent for some time wouldn't hurt much, probably better so...

Together with I Got The Blues and Casino Boogie, this track is maybe the Stones track with the best interplay between Taylor and Keith.
It's one of my definite favourites. There aren't many bands that can be as authentic-sounding as the Stones at their best.
I like the Exile-version the most - simply because the balance between the guitars takes it to greater heights. The outtake (as well as the Montreux-version) loses some of that effect, because of more Keith-soloing, imo.

I am not sure I understand which conflict(s) you are referring to, I don't come here that regularly, but I always read your comments about the music with pleasure and interest. I thought your analysis were often spot on and insightful.
Just my 2 cents.
