Pierre, while being in the Stones gear HQ, did you ever open an instrument case only to realize it hadn't been opened in decades and that the guitar the strings picks were like they left here 20 25 35 years ago?

Did you ever have a "time trip" moment, realizng that "Wow I'm back to..." Nellcote'71 Down Under 1973, or Munich'74 or Pathé Marconi 1978 etc etc.

Thx for the thumb-up D&G. Coming from you and your "insider" pedigree I take it as a huge compliment. smileys with beer

Now a triple final question :

- does Keith personnally own some bass guitars?

- they recorded countless times in Paris. Did Keith ever buy an axe in the Pigalle "guitar HQ" district of the city?

- re Pigalle I know for a fact that after the 1971 Nellcote heist Mick and Stu (+some burly minders?) combed the Pigalle guitar shops just in case some of the sotel gear had re-appeared there.
Do you know if the search was successful?

Why doesn't Taylor use more distortion on MR, it would do miracles for him. Is that according to his own taste ?

Keith owned a Travis Bean bass back in the late 70s...

Very good question, LuxuryStones. I've wondered about that myself. But it's that sound he has played with on his solo gigs, at least since 95 when I first saw him in concert.

That was the best question of the bunch, vibe is after all what we're asking about and you captured it, perfect question, my first reaction when meeting a vintage piece is to smell it, it can tell much about it's authenticity and history. Certainly Ron's and Keith's guitars have a strong tobacco vibe.

I don't know, maybe it is the same one...another question for Pierre!

agreed I wondered that when I saw them last year... Is Jones playing Keith's SFD bass on stage?

Was before Pierre's time but does he know which of the Dan Armstrong Rock Treble (single coil) and Rock Sustain (Humbucker) pickups Keith preferred for live/studio with the clear ADA6? Before he stopped using them? Also how Keith thinks the re-issue stackes up against the originals...

Many of the action photos from the era are either not angled right or his hand is covereing the pickup.

Good question, berlinjive. I own a '69 Dan Armstrong and have the Rock Treble and Rock Bass pickups, been looking for a Sustain pu for years. Don't seem to see them on ebay very often. I think you can see in some of the Keith pics that he's using the sustain at least some of the time, can't you? Don't have an example at hand.

How Keith and you decide what guitar to use on each song played live? There are so many and most of them I suspect are really good! Thanks Pierre.

I remember an interview in which DJ talks about his pbass. He didn't mention the fact that it was the SFTD bass. If it was, I think that would be the first thing he would have said!

I bet it's still in the arsenal.

Darryl mentions using a white P-bass belonging to Charley Drayton while auditioning for the Stones.

I bet he added quite a few more P-basses to his own arsenal after getting the gig with the Stones.

I saw a big picture of Jones playing a sunburst p bass on another thread. It has no Fender decal and is way too new to be Keith's which I'd guess to be made around 1966. Still a good question as to the whereabouts of Keith's well known P-Bass.

Irrelevance? confused smiley

There's a question posted by me, 3th post on this page, my dear open-G, DandelionPowderman thinks it's a good one, 4th post on this page, but I don't expect Pierre de Beauport to answer it.

I know you guys do post highly relevant stuff which is mostly very interesting indeed.

it gets annoying though, when you clogg up the rest of a good thread in kids-style-chit-chat-mode with full quotes.
