My vote for best:
"I'll have a hard time missin you baby, with my pistol in your mouth" - Sweet Blood Call, Louisiana Red

Honorable Meantion:
"Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends. We're so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside" - Karn Evil 9, ELP

"Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try" - Imagine, John Lennon

"I've seen the bright lights of Memphis And the Commodore Hotel And underneath a street lamp, I met a southern belle" - Dixie Chicken, Little Feat

"Off Our Rockers, Actin' Crazy, With the Right Medication We Won't Be Lazy" - Old Folks Boogie, Little Feat

"Backstroke lover always hidin neath the covers" - Walk This Way, Aerosmith

"It aint easy Livin like a gypsy Tell ya honey how I feel" - Mama Kin, Aerosmith

"Hey Joe, where you goin with that gun in your hand?" - Hey Joe, Jimi Hendrix

"On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha, You can listen to the engine moanin' out it's one note song" - Turn The Page, Bob Seger

"Oh well, oh well, I feel so good today, We touched ground on an international runway Jet propelled back home, from over seas to the USA" - Back In The USA, Chuck Berry

I think that's more than enough...

Peace,
Mr DJA

Really, I don't think it is at all difficult to try to imagine that there isn't a heaven.

I think it is a lot harder to imagine that there is a heaven.

So a strong case can be made for revising that that lyric.

Infact would a more imaginitive thread involve posthumous revision of famous opening lines?

"Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man who's pure and chaste".

Deluxetone ->

Interesting thoughts. I never considered that some people may struggle with imaginations which are limited in their scope. On just about any topic I can think of (off the top of my head as I type) my imagination can easily go to either side of the coin. Note: I'm not trying to judge you or your beliefs. Actually I'd like to avoid that as the example at hand is rather frowned upon by bv when it comes to discussion here. More just the thought that some imaginary scenarios would be difficult for some people to explore due to their individual... not sure what words I want to put in... beliefs? Ideaology? Not sure. Regardless, although I normally thank people on this site for making me laugh, today I'll thank you for making me think! First thing in the morning too! Good way to start the day.

On your other thought... I like the idea of a revisionist (is that the correct word?) lyric thread but the one you picked (although a good starting example - and creative) doesn't meet your criteria for "posthumous" as the writer is still very much alive. grinning smiley

Peace,
Mr DJA

Imagine? Oh please! grinning smiley

Lennon had some great ones though. Here's one:

Yes I'm lonely, wanna die

Look at me
what am I supposed to be?

Mother, You had Me I never had you

As soon as your born they make you feel small

God is a Concept by which
we measure our pain (overrated song though)

Half of what I say is meaningless

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields.

She's not a girl who misses much
Do do do do do do do do, oh yeah
She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand
Like a lizard on a window pane
The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors
On his hobnail boots
Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy
Working overtime
A soap impression of his wife which he ate
And donated to the National Trust

"She's my little rock'n'roll..."

"I'm a fleabit, peanut monkey..."

"I hear the click-clack of your feet on the stairs..."

"Worked the bars and sideshows along the twilight zone..."

"A scrap of flesh and a heap of bones"...

Good one Reg! Can't believe I didn't think of that one myself as it would be high up on a list if I were to put one together. Another one I don't think I've seen posted:

In the mornin' don't say you love me,
'Cause I'll only kick you out of the door

You know the day destroys the night
Love me two times, baby
People are strange when you're a stranger
Hello, I love you Won't you tell me your name?
Yeah! Come on, come on, come on, come on Now touch me, baby

Peace indeed.

It actually wasn't meant to be taken too seriously - file under designation 'laugh-think'.

I think I still need to do further work on my 'Sympathy for the Angel' lyrics - yes and to do further work on misapplication of 'posthumous' to a finished song lyric and not a its finished songwriter!

Oh, and for bad measure, .......
