Brown Sugar 7" white label release
Posted by: Kempyspurs ()

I recently acquired some vinyl from a deceased relative and amongst some very interesting early prog Rock, punk & indie items, there was a 7" single release of Brown Sugar on white label.

I have checked that the item is in fact the correct recording and it has a stamped catalogue number RS 19100 A1 & B1 respectively. It has the tracks Bitch & Let It Rock on the flip side so I make it that it is the standard UK release but never seen a white label release of it before.

Can anyone assist with any knowledge of knowing about this release on this format? Is it commonplace or do I have quite a collectible on my hands?

Sound like either a promo or test pressing.

Does it have the tongue on it?

I have a couple of US version white labels, one with the tongue one without.

I believe without the tongue is the test pressing, although I'm only speculating.

Thanks for your comments.

It is a plain white label on both sides with the artist and track titles hand written. I'm not sure what would designate it as a test pressing or not.

How would one post a picture on this thread then?

Sounds like it's an original acetate...worth some dough if that's the case!

When taking photos Kempyspurs, make sure to get the matrix (numbers and letters in the deadwax) on file smiling smiley

I can't seem to get the catalogue run out matrix number to be legible in a photo as although it is stamped, it is very faint

Looks like a UK test press to me. Nice find.

Which version of "Brown Sugar" is it? Is it the 'standard' version, or the version with Eric Clapton?

I concur...I think that's worth a bit of money.

I certainly hope it is a UK test pressing now - especially as it was their first release on their own label. Wouldn't have a clue how to find its value however

This is from a quick google search:

[collectorsfrenzy.com]

So it sold for....I'd have thought more. This copy is only in fair condition though. I'd say yours should be worth a few hundred dollars at least if it's in reasonable condition.

Price:
$82.29 USD
$80.36 AUD
$83.59 CAD
€61.51 EUR
£52.50 GBP
¥6376.77 JPY

Thank you for this information. It's difficult to get accurate valuations as an item is only worth as much as somebody is prepared to pay for it. It certainly is a great find and it looks like these type of items do not come around that often if the last one to sell on an auction site was during 2011
