George Bailey: What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the moon, Mary.

Mary: I'll take it. Then what?

George Bailey: Well, then you can swallow it, and it'll all dissolve, see... And the moonbeams would shoot out of your fingers and your toes and the ends of your hair... Am I talking too much?

George was stoned.

At 0:38 starts one of the great heart wrenching scenes in cinema: At the same moment George loses the fight for his hopes and dreams and embraces his future. I stood in an elevator once with Jimmy Stewart. A week of so previously I was at the Nuart Theater in West LA watching some Thin Man movies. In one of the movies and one of his early roles Stewart pulls a gun and reveals he is the villain. When he did the audience cheered. Hard to explain why other than love for the usually gentle playing Stewart. I wanted to tell him this, but left him alone. That elevator ride made my day.

Mary's response to George's vehemence is an exquisite combination of terror and empathy. George has lost the battle, his walls have fallen. Mary has won the day and her love is his destiny. For this scene alone you could love Donna Reed and Jimmy Stewart for the rest of your life. It's a great love scene.

I've never been able to get into that movie. For me, every Christmas, it's "Scrooged" with Bill Murray.

It's a great film! I watched it for the first time in five years or so this year. I had seen it too many times. It is terrific. It really does hit home how one person makes a lot of difference in others lives. Classic and Stewart was great as was Henry Travers as Clarence and Donna Reed was beautiful!

I watched it 1 1/2 times this week and have seen it many many times, it is a classic and it is awesome. If not for George Baily would there be a "Back to the Future"?

Merry Christmas Owl, I hope yours is great!

Such beauty...

Watched it yesterday (Christmas day), followed by White Christmas, one of my all time favorites. A simple, sweet movie with wonderful songs.

I just saw The Wolf of Wall Street, and it's the ANTI-It's a Wonderful Life. Also, it being a Scorsese film, I was sort of expectant for a Stones song...but the first half of the film seemed music by everyone who influenced the Stones. But no Stones themselves. Funny. (Then the second half was largely hip hop: Biggie and Naught by Nature, etc.)
