I think one of the morals of this thread is that it ain't so easy to think or write definitively.

What about rhythm and blues? (some of the greatest talent ever in music)

Where is Southern rock?

If Britpop belongs in the catch-all "retro" bag then so do all the early 60s groups who began by trying to sound like earlier blues/rock'n'roll/soul but soon arrived at a sound of their own. Much the same thing happened to Oasis, Blur, Pulp etc.

And that should be "boy band /girl band pop" there were just as many girl bands as boys ...

That was a hard one, but I don`t buy it. My distaste for bands started after 1992 is simply too big.

You're clearly not qualified to make any kind of music list if your interest in it died 21 years ago. ALL that does is make you a dinosaur.

Oh... yeah... (ahem) "In my opinion".

Sorry to hear that bitusa2012. I was just giving the stone in the grass a seasonal rest, as it is winter here in the Northern Hemisphere, and I like the gray starkness of the present signature, which I grabbed from a German website--perhaps it's the "Germanness" that disturbs you?cool smiley

The whole college/indie rock scene from the '80s is being ignored... R.E.M., The Smiths, The Replacements, etc. Call it "Neo-Jangle" or something, but it was hugely influential.

And then there was the whole hip-hop movement...

Thanks! But be forewarned--that "cracked avatar" may make an occasional appearance now and again, as I plan a rotating seasonal cycle with various "holiday" cameos.winking smiley

The whole retro bag is meant for stuff like this.

I have deep respect for this. It was the disillusioned baby boomers soothing comfort after the storming 60s. But alas, from my hand it was a question of priority. I was 14 in 1970. I didn`t need that comfort.

True; but why these groups ever labelled as 'bands'? I've never understood how, or why, the term band is applied to the likes of Boyzone and One Direction.
