Let’s congratulate the tiny British Colony of Gibraltar, who this evening, competed in their first-ever ‘official’ football match post Uefa-membership. A nil-nil draw with Slovakia is a pretty credible start, I’d say. They’ll be eligible to take part in the Euro 2016 qualifiers which begin next September.

I just can't get excited about international or even European club football.
Give me a third round FA cup tie any day of the week... complete with hot pork pies and Bovril

Stoneage, I think the popularity of 'soccer' will continue to grow in the U.S. I sense that the sports profile is continuing to rise. It used to be the dumping ground for the European greats who wanted one last big pay-deal, but since the likes of Beckham - who was actually only 31 when he signed for the Galaxy - France's Thierry Henry and Ireland's Robbie Keane decided to head Stateside, I feel a change is occurring. However, it'll always be a distinct second-runner compared to NFL, NBA, NHL, etc.

Don't know if His Majesty is a football fan, but I wonder is he's aware of his wee teams result this evening?
Usually much better entertainment and not too many prima donnas diving and moaning.Quote
