Is that an oscillator or a theremin that's on the track? Whatever it is, that is the one thing on PGH that I could do without. I know it adds to the trippiness of the song, but there's something about the pitch that I find irritating sometimes. Especially when I'm driving. I thought it was a siren a few times when I wasn't paying too much attention to the music, found myself checking the speedometer and looking in the rear-view mirror...yikes!

I do think it's one of the weaker tracks on BTB, but still a cool song.

Never knew Shirley Watts ever contributed to a Stones song.

She doesn't, 'twas just a lil joke by Mick that some have taken seriously. grinning smiley

U2 borrowed "Desire" from this tune.

The bit about Shirley Watts being on it was a joke - in an interview at the time
Mick said that you could hear her shrieking on it. I imagine he was talking about the theremin
(is that what Rene means by "oscillator"?)

No theremin on the track, an oscillator is correct. Also used for Cosmic Christmas.

Here is a webpage that gets it almost right:

Thanks! Nice stuff there (and not just the SATANIC review). I like the fresh style he writes, finding interesting 'microcosmos' angles. Stuff that inspires to (re)listen the albums. (By the way, there is BETWEEN THE BUTTONS review as well.)

The fabulous album Revolution by Paul Revere & The Raiders also gets mentioned. If you don't know them then you're in for a treat. Check this out
