I was there (on stage) last night with Ray and Dave and it was incredible.
If I rememember, you are the bass player with Daves band jiggysawdust.
Must have been a fantastic experience for every band member up on stage on that special night. ><
I'm Dave's second guitar player. I spoke with Ray quite a bit and he was very happy with the performance and loved Dave's band.

Great video of Victoria.
Its so sad. The Kinks ALWAYS had to try fitting in. Dave could probably handle that 70s stuff pretty easily, but Ray (and the band in a way) always had to adapt to the times. They'd make these great unique albums, but they were always just a bit off. Probably why they never really became as huge and talked about as the Beatles and the Stones today. You see Ray in that video and its so NOT him, but its what he had to do at the time. Thats what you had to do to keep the audiences coming. Its sad that they were never really respected just for being what they were.
If there was ever a reason I'd like to see them reform, it would be for that. Just so they could be The Kinks. They wouldn't have to put on a show, they wouldn't have to be trying to impress. Very respectful crowds that just wand to see the guys doing what they do the way THEY want to do it. I'd just want to see them end on their terms, after having to deal with a whole career of trying to be relevant. They were smarter than the public was, and now everyone's caught up and are ready to experience them in the way I assume The Kinks always naturally wanted to be presented.

I posted the following at my Facebook page this morning.
I've received literally hundreds of requests to tell my version of events regarding the Ray and Dave reunion so here it is:
We were told at rehearsal on Thursday (where Dave was still sick with the flu) that Dave had asked Ray to join him onstage at the show. I really didn't think it would happen and had actually forgotten about it by the following evening. During the show, "Young And Innocent Days" features Dave solo with Tom, so I leave the stage and stand in the wings. On Friday night, there was a tall man standing stage left when I got there (I couldn't see his face.) About 10 seconds later, he turned to me and it was Ray. He was very friendly and we chatted through my entire break, with him asking me how Dave was doing, how the US tour went, etc. When the song finished, I immediately told drummer Dennis Diken "Ray's here" and managed to tell bassist Tom Currier a few songs later. I waited until the very end when we were going to play "You Really Got Me" anyway to tell Dave so that it would just happen spontaneously. When he introduced Ray, the reaction was incredible, I've never seen or heard that kind of gasping and screaming ("Kinkymania"?) Dave started the riff and Ray jumped right in, it felt amazing. During Dave's solo, Ray turned to me, smiled and nodded which I interpreted as him saying "this effing rocks." After the show, we were immediately asked if Ray could join us in the band's dressing room (we said yes.) He came in a minute or two later, very friendly and extremely complimentary (telling us at least 5 times that Dave has a great band.) I got him a Grolsch (which I opened with an official TJS bottle opener) and we discussed Dave's recent tour (he seemed very impressed that I had only missed 1 show due to my kidney failure.) Even though he'd told others "no photos," he happily agreed to pose for photos with the band and then he was off. A day I'll remember all my life.

Rolling Freak, I haven't really thought about it much because I've just assumed that The Kinks would reunite (I've played with Dave since 2000 and The Kinks have come close to reuniting a couple of times.)
Thanks to Paulywaul and everyone for the nice replies, I was initially reluctant to post here because I thought I'd end up part of the Negativity Scene this Christmas. I'll try to post more on this thread in the future.
I hear it and thats very interesting to learn. I've followed both of them separately and I always just thought the more time that goes by the less a reunion seems likely. Dave's stroke, Ray starting a solo career, Dave continuing his. Its nice to see its always at least been discussed over the years, although I understand why obviously its not really what you guys think about. Thanks for the answering the question though and I can't even imagine what it was like. Definitely love your posts and just as Cristiano said we are very appreciative of what you've shared with us.Quote
