I read through the article, what was the 'jab' you're referring to?

From Bravado: " 'Now And Then' is the last Beatles song, written and demoed by John Lennon in the mid/late 1970s. With John’s voice now pristine in the mix, 'Now And Then' features elements from the 1995 sessions including George Harrison’s guitar parts, and vocal and instrumental parts recorded by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in 2022, along with a new arrangement for strings. Produced by Paul and Giles Martin, 'Now And Then' is the last song recorded by all four Beatles, a powerful and fitting finale for the band’s timeless recordings."

For anyone in the UK or anyone overseas who can access BBC1, check out The One Show tonight which is dedicated to The Beatles and in particular their last ever song. There will be a 15 minute film which features Giles Martin and some 'famous' fans giving their opinions. The show airs at 1900hours (7.00pm) GMT.

I don’t about you all, but the song sounds like a solo Lennon tune with the other Beatles just adding their parts. I wish they’d go back to creating songs they used to do it.

Interesting that Paul never actually says who played the guitar solo, only that there's a solo, played "in the style" of George, and that it was done as a tribute to George. Presumably, Paul played it himself?

I think George is on the track but Paul did the solo George style

The story back in 1995 was that they abandoned working on "Now and Then" because George didn't like it, wasn't happy with the way the session was going, and walked out. Whatever he did manage to put down on tape will be on the completed track, but either he never got around to recording a solo, or if he did, it wasn't very good. Even if it was, it wouldn't have been difficult for Paul to do a better one. He's a very good lead guitarist. Some of the best guitar bits on Beatles records are actually Paul, not George. Those little solos on "Ticket To Ride," for example. That's Paul playing those.

Yep; and let's not forget his great lead-work on another Help! track, Another Girl. I've read that this is the first recording to feature his newly-acquired Epiphone Casino.

I usually keep my opinions of George Harrison to myself, because there's a subset of folks out there that will instantly insist that he was the most talented of the four by far. While he certainly had likeable qualities and a larger amount of personal charisma, I've never loved his music and honestly reading behind the scenes stories as well as seeing "Get Back", I've lost a lot of respect for him as a performer, maybe as a person as well.

I look forward to hearing the song tomorrow, but I'm not factoring in George's opinion of the quality.

It’s amazing to see the US ITunes Charts and see the Beatles and the Stones at the top in 2023.

iTunes accounts less than 2% of the US market, hardly something representative today, it was important between 2004-2015, not anymore.

In the video Paul says he played the slide solo 'in the style of George'.

A miracle after 60 years the Stones are still competing for No. 1 position.

I find Now and Then very light weight though.

Weak boring song as expected. It’s cringe to me that the Beatles could just never let go of the past. Go to a McCartney concert and chances are you will see video references to the Beatles throughout his concert. It’s been 50 years. They were all like that to. They also all had the need to constantly tell you ever little thought they have about Beatles to. When one dies the others actually feel the need to tell the media exactly how they feel. Always strange to me.

Strange comment. The Beatles ARE the past, so how can they let go of it?

This new song is better than the previous 2 new songs in the Anthology series from the 90s, IMO.
