I have been a user of the Wolfgang'sVault from the start. If I meet somebody new who loves rock and roll I always encourage the person to check out the Vault's; it is a treasure. It used to be free for streaming but now it's a small annual fee ($30). Really great.

well....I too have been listening to the Vault for years. BUT I pay nothing for it!

I use the iphone/ipad app for it and happened to notice on the website that they planned to charge for it soon. So, when the next app update came through (ver 4.0) I did not update it. It still plays free! Though I am not getting new show updates, at least the Vault is there for free as long as I avoid updating the app.

Well, the companies that released all those bootlegs over the years didn't either, but they didn't give them away. I don't know if that store at Wolfgang's Vault makes enough money to pay all their bills, I've been going there for years and haven't purchased a thing. Most people go there for the music, and I hate it that it's no longer free, but not surprised.

This is a fully legal and legit site, they are doing nothing shady here, this is part of the Bill Graham archive. If you listen to these you can tell they are the raw board tapes right from the BGP vault. They have many major artists on here. Plus paying $29.99 for unlimited high quality streaming for a year is hardly unreasonable given the wealth of content they offer. This isn't like walking into a used CD shop in 1995 and paying $40 bucks for one bootleg Stones show on CD. The hilarious thing is that they are so lazy now they just upload the entire reels or DATs they find in the vault as one giant file and ask the fans to send them the track listings.

Bill Graham not only tape (audio) recorded the 69 Show but he also video taped the show. As you know some of the audio from that show was bootleged. I tried to track the Video tape down, but what I was lead to believe from looking was the video was either lost in the big fire Graham had many years back (he lost lots & lots of stuff from that fire) or it was stolen. Ethan Russell's photo book has a photo of that show and you can see the video camera on stage video taping the show. As far as a 72 S.F. Board show goes, it was recorded "sound board" but only two or three songs ever surfaced "Soundboard" as far as I know. The rest probably exist but has yet to surface. But what I do know is there is lots of footage from the Stones 78 show from S.F. in the vaults, that has yet to come out, so who know when it will come out.

Those three songs from Winterland 72 that are supposedly soundboard are in fact not. You see them listed on boots occassionally but they are always the same songs from an audience tape of the show. The Winterland shows were also video-taped and I can remember at least one occasion when they were shown at Winterland prior to another show. This was back in the mid to late 70s.

I have some boot L.P.'s from the Winterland Show, that are "good" quality but definetly not "board".
But before any boots from that show ever came out I got a 'reel to reel' tape of only 2/3 songs from Winterland, I believe they were the last three songs of the set. Are those the ones you are speaking of?? The quality of those were definetly not from the audience, if they are, they used the best microphones ever. I will have to dig them up again and give them a listen, if I recall though there was no audience sounds during and in between the songs. I wonder what happened to the 72 Winterland videos, do you recall how many cameras they use for that show. Those were the songs, Rip This Joint, JJF and SFM. I think they were included on the IMP Winter Tour 73 CD and listed there as "soundboard" and they have been listed elsewhere as soundboard. I think unscrupulous bootleggers ( is that redundant ?) do it to sell more CDs. But they definitely are not soundboard sources. There is little crowd noise, you are right. But the music is clearly taped from the audience. And I have seen other references on IORR about those three Winterland songs and no one seems to think they are soundboard.

Regarding the video, I did not see it but I remember reading a review of a Winterland show sometime in the 1970s, in which it was specifically mentioned that the Stones Winterland show was screened before a concert. It may have been before the Stones played at the Cow Palace in 75. The Stones Cow Palace dates were first announced at a Lynard Skynard concert at Winterland in the spring of 75 so it may have been then. But I definitely remember the reference in the paper.

FYI, Graham used to have two cameras at Winterland. They were in front of the stage, one to each side. I think most, thought not all, shows were filmed, all in BW and not very good quality. When I think about it now, I can remember those guys climbing into their little chairs to begin filming before the show would begin. Here is a mention of the video system on a winterland website.

The quality of those B. Graham recordings mostly weren't very good. At least not in todays standards.

I like WV but i wish they still did shows in FLAC. I also wish they were more forthcoming in giving details of the shows they do have so maybe we could request shows. Crosby era Byrds ? Buffalo Springfield ? Syd's Pink Floyd ? Stones ? Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac ?
They may or may not have no more,some or loads of the above. They do also ocassionally edit tapes for no apparent reason an example being Green Manalishi at the Cue Club by Peter Green's Mac (buy it and all other Green era shows).
On the plus side they do pay the artists and we get to hear some storming shows for what is a pretty reasonable price (although sadly now only in mp3).
I am not certain but i believe they are still in the process of transferring many old tapes which is time consuming and sometimes specialist work.
I give them 7.5/10 and my subscription money and look forward to some more great shows.
Finally, when i've had download problems they have addressed them courteously and swiftly.

The three closing Winterland tracks are available in SB, but I have yet to see any video of it. I guess it exists as footage was used for CS Blues.

Very nice WV add shows from their vault, but be careful, almost every stones show is too slow! Why is that not corrected in the proper speed? Can not understand that. Until then no sale for me.

What I find puzzling is they have 89 and 94 shows in the vaults, that is shows that took place after Graham was kicked out of the Stones circus and replaced by Cohl.

Also frustating that some shows are not complete or have songs patched in from other shows (without telling that) I think at least for one show from 1978 (don't know what show it was)

Cause in '89 for parts of the tour Graham was still the promotor, and for the '94 tour Clear Channel was the promoter, who was the owner of Bill Graham Presents after Graham's death.

I'm very curious. Is this the same Toronto 89 soundboard show that has circulated for many years as incomplete? If it is, that was a pretty decent early show from the tour.
