It was really odd how he wonked up the intro in much the same way on both nights though.
Someone on this forum during the ABB tour, in response to criticisms of Keith's playing, actually suggested in all seriousness that what people were actually hearing were innovative, jazz-inspired progressions from someone who had ascended to a level beyond that of a virtuoso which were so advanced that mere fans and other lesser musicians couldnt comprehend them. And that those who merely thought it was a bit of clumsiness from an old man with arthritis whose head may have been a bit befuddled with alcohol and/or medication were full of shit.
The fact that he was able to play this intro exactly the same way at both Hyde Park shows is making me question whether or not the lone nutcase in question was actually wrong.
I like your writing style,Gazza. As for me I jumped and screamed out of my head up to the fourth song so I totally missed that notorious intro in real time
Well, messing up the intro for such an iconic song on the first night, what can one say? Odd, but hey, he's old.
To do the same thing the second night, AFTER everyone came to him after the show with, "WTF was that!?" smacks either of "f-you all" from Keith or a slow descent into dementia.

Well Gazza yeah, - but than why overdub this brilliant piece of art for the official release . . ?!

I kind of remember it for the 6th, but i was having too much fun seeing my favourite band for the first time to give a shit and totally forgot until i read the reviews.

Ditto. Never bothered me. It was a great gig. The panty-pissing on here over one fluffed chord (which I'd forgotten about five seconds later when he played the couple of bars that followed it) was bordering on hysterical.

I can't be bothered to read through all the previous message here so apologies if it's already been covered, but...
Why take songs out of the running order on the DVD of the concert and then include them anyway as extras? Surely that makes no sense whatsoever. Are they worried that viewers' attention spans can't cope past 16 songs?

I actually knew the first few songs about an hour before the show - someone walked past with the setlist, held it up and practically screamed "What do I do with this?!"
I love the way Jagger makes assumptions about our attention spans on our behalf.Couldn't they at least have a seamless branching option for the bonus tracks?Quote

I'm pretty sure he did it on purpose the second night, especially since he took a long hard and dark look at the crowd (towards the T1 section) before starting to play. Keith's older but he can still hold a grudge and I don't think he was too pleased with the reaction to the missed chord on the 6th due to the scarf/wind ;-)

Of course everyone makes mistakes. But starts and ends are important. To screw up the intro riff is more noticeable than throwing in couple of mistakes in the middle. And then repeating the same mistake a week later...

Yeah it's just odd...mistakes are normal, singing out of key, missing timing, but fecking the intro to the same opening song on successive shows is strange.
My bet is a screw-up the first night and an, "F-YOU, I MEANT to do that the first time!", on the second night, after taking a bit of flack.

He had an impressive string of encore-openings on the BB-tour as well. Almost without exceptions, the BS-intro was wonked up big time

How many times does it have to be 'wonked up' before it gets re-classified as a 're-working' or 'new arrangement' ?

It's free-jazz, Gaz
