JACKSON, Miss. — Hollywood has come to Jackson in a big way.
Filming has been under way for the past few weeks on the James Brown biopic "Get On Up." Crews have been shooting scenes at Thalia Mara Hall, on Farish Street and at the Mississippi Coliseum.
The $30 million Universal Pictures project is produced by rock 'n roll legend Mick Jagger, who dined out Thursday night at Parlor Market, where one of the film's supporting actors, Dan Aykroyd was also spotted earlier this month.
Matthew Kajdan, Parlor Market's executive chef, tweeted out a picture of Jagger.
"He had the duck carbonara," Kajdan said. "It was pretty cool."
Fans have been able to get up close and personal with some of the stars of the film. Aykroyd spent several hours last weekend signing bottles of his Crystal Head Vodka for hundreds of fans at Wine and Spirits in the Quarter.
"Get On Up" stars Chadwick Boseman as Brown, along with Aykroyd as Ben Bart, the president of the agency that represented Brown for 40 years. "The Help" stars Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer have supporting roles in the film. Davis plays Brown's mother and Spencer plays his aunt.
The film is directed by Mississippi native Tate Taylor, who also directed "The Help."
"Get On Up" covers Brown's life from his humble beginnings to the peak of stardom and eventual downfall.
