You can see Keith plug into the Fender mini rack right before they start their set.

Brian and Keith are using Fender Showman amps. I think Brian's has a 1x15 speaker, Keith's has 2x12 speakers.

Bill is using Vox AC100 through two 1x18 cabs, one on each side of the stage.

Thank you! Thanks to all that replied.

Who's amps were they? Did T.A.M.I. supply them, or were they owned by the Stones? If so, the latter. What else did they use them on?

Probably their own amps.

That was their standard touring set up from sometime in 1964 after their first US tour and up to UK tour in September 1966.

Did they use these Showman amps for over 2 years, and flew them from the US to Europe and back again? I remember reading (from Gered Mankowitz?) that Ian Stewart as road manager had to organise rental of equipment for the larger area's they played in, and that they didn't tour with their own stuff until 1967. Did Charlie use one kit throughout one leg of a tour in say 65 or 66, or did he use different sets? Never payed attention to that...

Chatlie seems to use the same kit and of course there's their guitars. I doubt they were able to rent the exact same Vox bass set up for all these different regions, so if they could travel with all that why not the Fender Showmans too?

Never really seen any info from them about such things during this time, I just know from the many photos that this was their general touring set up.

There are instances where other amps appear, like Bill using Sunn amp during some gigs in spring 1966 and also a Vox UL series bass head during their summer 1966 US tour.

For the 1966 UK tour they were supplied with Vox UL series amps, but even then at some gigs Keith still used the Fender Dual Showman.

Maybe all this will be revealed when the Stones Gear book is published this Fall.

Im really looking forward to that book, but my sneaking suspicions are that we
a) already know a lot about the matter
b) because much of it is from this forum
c) because several of us/you know at least as much as the authors
d) and that there will be some nasty flaming over omissions and details as soon as the book is released.

However, really looking forward to it.
Will be nice to see if they have included/updated the info on gear played on this tour.

Even if it were just see and name gear info it would still be a good thing to have in printed form, but given that they have talked with some of the people involved I'm sure it will be a great book that goes beyond that. thumbs up

I think little errors creeping in is inevitable, lots on gear pages here, but we have benefit of edit function, they have to do a whole new print.

Don't forget that much of the information posted here is just educated guessing and hearsay -so information on guitars or amps that we haven't been able to really see up close and feel ourselves. There's quite some old info that has been corrected as the years went by.

As I understand the book is based upon inspection of the actual instruments, so I guess we will have a lot of confirmation of what we know, but also a lot of new insights as well.

The gear of the 60's has been covered quite well here really. smiling smiley

It's the stories relating to them that will be interesting, like where they were bought, or when they were supplied etc.
