Why is there no book about Charlie?

There are plenty of books about Mick, Keith, Ron but no Charlie, why?

What Charlie?

Good question. Maybe because Charlie, bless his heart, has led a fairly conventional life, not too much drama there. It would be very interesting though to focus on his drumming, his role in the Stones, and his jazz work.

No, just kidding.

Not enough scandals, not enough gossip to fill a book.

Oh, buy the way, I could write a book about how much I loved his playing in Hyde Park on July 13th. He was fantastic!

No Material?
If you play 50 years in the greatest rock'n'roll band of the world, i think there is enough material to write 10 books...

he's so humble and down-to-earth that, if a biographer came to him for an interview, he'd spill the beans about everything, including his drug years (83-85).

But if 40 of those years were simply "hangin' 'round" then that slims it down to just a couple of books worth of material.

Charlie's (not so) simple drawings are stylish, and fun to look at, what few I've seen reproduced..really very good

a collection of them in a book would be appealing to Stones fans..

he makes still-life drawings in hotel rooms..there must be thousands of them

Great question....

I would Love to read a Charlie biography or better yet autobiography!

What books are there about Ronnie not including "The Works" or Jo's recent book?

Would you happen to have a complete list of all these books? Thanks...

It would mean in the first place that Charlie needs to say something....and that's the main problem - getting him to speak more than a few words.

Maybe a one chapter book?

Perhaps an editor or writer from some jazz publication could author the book, do it from that angle.

Charlie is a very private man. Likes a simple life when not on tour and isn;t impressed with the rock star image etc. I'm sure if he wanted to write a book or have it ghost written he would be able to tell some amazing stories but the difficulty would be to be honest and risk pissing either Keith or Mick or both off. We all know that Keith likes to portray himself and events in certain way which does not always follow the exact truth. Well Charlie, I would imagine, would remember events precisely and that would cause problems.

I'm sure at some point he will release something, but I wouldn;t expect it to be along the same lines of any previous Stones books. It will more likely be about his interests in Jazz or Horses or Art.

Terry Rawlings' Rock On Wood is a pretty good overview of Ron's life - think it came out in the late '90s or thereabouts. I think the funniest bit may have been one of his brothers commenting "I've never seen him eat!"

Just not shocking enough for the kind of publishers who commission rock biographies - and probably Charlie, being the intensely private person he is, wouldn't either want to write it himself or co-operate with a ghost.

"Charlie Watts" by Alan Clayson. 2004 Sanctuary Publishing (UK). 185 pages. I'm looking at my paperback copy now.

You're wrong : in that 1996 RS interview made by Jim DeRogatis he spoke profusely about several subjects... including his bouts with drugs ("speed and H" ).

Maybe - unlike Jagger - he doesn't suffer fools gladly...

Clayson keeps reaching for things to say about Watts--the term 'man about the house' is used frequently. It's one of those bios that ends the way it begins, with the author talking about what a nice guy he is and how the 'man about the house' is so well respected. In fact, it was so dull, I can't even remember anything about it. It's 192 pages, mostly about the music scene from which Watts emerged. The pattern of the book meanders about: It's 20 pages of hanging around and 5 pages about Watts....

Because he's just Mick's drummer boy.

Because Charlie considers his personal life private.

Might make for a hit sitcom.
A single camera comedy about a quiet guy who likes to raise horses
and would rather be a homebody but secretly plays drums for the grnrbitw.
They could call it "Watts Up!" or maybe "Channah Wattstana" or something.
