I spoke with Howard on my radio show this week- if you like Zappa, Kaylan's new book Shell Shocked is loaded with cool stories about him - and tons of other stuff- also some rare, live KISS I recorded recently -
I wonder how Manager #1 arrived at that $2.5 million figure. That was a fortune in the 1960s (like $17.5 million in today's dollars). Sure, the Turtles were successful (five Top 10 singles), but they weren't that successful.

I saw "My Dinner with Jimi" last night, a film that Howard Kaylan wrote the screenplay for. It was about The Turtles 1967 trip to London where they met the Beatles and, as the title alludes to, Monsieur Hendrix.
One part of the film kind of beggared belief: Brian Jones supposedly approached Howard Kaylan at the Speakeasy and asked for his autograph. He tells Howard he is a big fan of his band. Then, when the Turtles are playing a show at the Speakeasy, Brian Jones is seen filming them with his home movie camera.
