What song do you have to play twice?
Posted by: mark ()
Date: March 11, 2005 18:46

While listening to Flashpoint last night I instinctivley pushed replay for Highwire, just one of those songs I can't go by without listening to it twice.

Any songs that you just don't fill the hunger with one play?

loads, sometimes I just want to hear the intro over and over like CYHMK and Happy, I often listen to Let it loose twice in a row for the whole song

HAPPY in it's entirety.

I wish it would have been longer to begin with. A completely different lead guitar section to embellish the rest of the song would have been great, and then the fade-out of Mick and Keith screaming at the top of their lungs..."Happy"!!!

The song is awesome no matter what though, easily in my top 4.

I do this to many songs--lately it's been a couple of the Handsome Girls' tracks: "Let It Rock" (..."and now from England, it's the Rolling @#$%& Stones!") and "When the Whip Comes Down" (best live version ever of this song).

Of course, depending on how drunk I might be, it could be just a particular section of a song (Billy Gibbon's first slide lead on the extended "Just Got Paid", for example).

Rocks Off

I also press replay on Rocks Off as Rockman. But I feel that the energy in the song always seem slighly different the second time I hear it. When I was younger I had a tape with Brown Sugar on it. And it was the same Brown Sugar (Original studiotrack) on it over and over again. I could listen to that song for days on end. But today it's Rocks Off (Brown Sugar remains my favourite though).

Many times every week I put on a Stones album and set it to repeat. Then it plays many many times. Yesterday I heard Goats Head Soup for 6 hours or so. There's even good reason for doing this: An album like GHS, which can sound heavy and dull the first time you hear it, simply needs way more listening than, say, Let It Bleed. And I keep discovering little details and stuff. It's THE way to listen to music. Because I heard GHS so much yesterday, I'm now completely hooked on Dancing With Mr. D. I never cared too much for it, but now I understand it's qualities. And man oh man I'm gonna keep hearing music this way. It's the greatest way to me.

It depends really. The Under My Thumb/I'm Free medley from MSG 69 I almost always play at least twice because it combines two of Stones favs.

Rockman, no surprise for your choice, ya shagoholic bastard!

Lately I have been digging the new live version of Monkey Man, I think the opening of that song is great and despite people not liking Live Licks I think this song is played quite well on the album.

Lately I've been playing Can't Turn You Loose off of Live Licks repeatedly

Hey..Yeah never thought of the shagaholic qualities Chriso... it's just always been at the top of my Stones pile.

ROCKS OFF....Keith Richards drags ya into the pit by the scruff of the neck, Mick Jagger thumps ya for a few rounds then the whole band throws ya over the wall with that Jericho style workout. Yep!.. Blows me to pieces every time.

Ha Dale, the same here. These days I play Monkey Man intro always again. And then I'm kinda hooked on Come On, I know they didn't like it but it's sounds so lovely, always makes me smile.

Alright, here's another song section I have to repeat--the sexy sax solo in George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone"--it's a classic, and it just makes you wanna turn into a stripper (not recommended for everyone, BTW LOL).

For me it's a few.

1.Gimmie Shelter
2.Rocks Off
3.Sway
4.Casino Boogie

I didn't know so many people loved Sway that much. For me Charlies drumming & Micks lazy vocals are too much for just one listen.

I can't explain Casino Boogie but when I listen to Exile, Rocks Off twice & Casino Boogie twice!

Gimmie Shelter feels so good, I have to hear it at least twice. It's like making love to that special women, once is not enough!!

It's so very lonely, you're 2,000 Light Years from home

Sway and CanĀ“t you hear me knocking. And I listen to "Winter" a lot during these days. Looking out of my window in the evening, see the snow falling down, light a candle and listen to that great tune...yeah.

In the car: Jiving Sister Fanny from Metamorphosis, love that guitar and Mick's pressing stile of singing, keep on bumping into rickshaws. BTW who plays the guitar solo here?

On the screen: Always replay Worried from 4F Theatre show, works so well and i always laugh to see Mick making his faces and getting really happy about that song working so well

Definetely Gimme Shelter is one of these songs you can put on repeat all alone.
