Get Yer Ya Yas Out - what are everyone's thoughts?

Listening through this entire live album for the 2nd time in 10 days. Just so so amazing. One of the first, if not the first truly amazing live albums of all time, followed by albums like Live At Leeds, Frampton Comes Alive, etc.

What does everyone else think about the album? Always has been a favorite of mine, mainly because I love that time period. Taylor just joining, Let It Bleed being my favorite album, really being rejuvenated and starting their true hard rock phase. My dad, who was alive at the time (I was not) has always said this album changed his life, and it is without question his favorite live album of all time. I remember when I was younger he would say that and I'd say "but its only 10 songs!" and he'd say "guess you haven't heard it yet."

It is a big important live record, whether you like it or not, and I'm just curious as to what everyone's thoughts on the album are. Haven't seen a thread for this in recently so hopefully this isn't a repeat (although I'm sure this has been discussed before). Is there anyone that just doesn't like it? Personally, I love everything from the tracklist, to the band lineup, to the classic album cover!

I bought it 1970 and thought it was very good being a live-album...Absolutely Live with the Doors were another one that I listened much to...Favorite on GYYYO is 'Little Queenie' followed by 'Midnight Rambler'...

Greatest live album by anyone.

I never tire of listening to it. For me, it takes me back to seeing them on that tour, and when I hear the album cuts, I can visualize them on stage. What a brilliant show, a brilliant slice of the Stones' history. Not a weak song on that album. My only complaint is Mick's vocal overdubs on Street Fighting Man, but that is not a big deal to me.

Best live album ever. The album that turned me from a fan to a fanatic. If I could only have one stones album this would be it.

I don't care how many overdubs they did on it, every note is perfect from start to finish. The only thing that could have made it better would have been more songs, something that was rectified a few years ago.

Like 71 Tele said, I don't care about the overdubs. Whatever alchemy occurred between live tracks and studio magic, it created one of absolute greatest live albums of all time. I listened to it continuously when it came out. I'm also very fond of Band of Gypsys, recorded within weeks of Ya Yas. I guess Allman Brothers at the Fillmore, Bangladesh, Ellington at Newport 1956, Marley Live (at the Rainbow), and David Live (at the Tower) fill out my list of all time favorite live albums. But Ya Yas and Gypsys hold a special place.

Best live Stones album ever. Riff, rock, guitars, guitars... A real piano (no need to play for the two guitarits...). And not yet the big band on stage...

Gold era.

I don't know why they needed overdubs because the vocals in the film are fine.

(Tell me they didn't overdub the vocals in the film).

Anyway, it's a great album AND a great cover, back and front.

Stu is great on GYYO. Great keys by him.

Classic album, where every version of a studio song is bettered live. Definitive versions of Sympathy, Midnight Rambler, Love in Vain, Stray Cat Blues... Overdubs don't bother me, still sounds hot and live. Great, and one of the most important live rock albums every released.

I sometimes think too much fuss is made about it, but that all goes out the window when I actually listen to it.... It's really @#$%&-ing good!

The overdubs and editing are part of it's charm. They caught some natural magic on tape and created something special with it.

It's really a fantastic album.

It was cool getting the extra songs on the deLuxe-edition, but they didn't really improve the album for me. The possible exception is You Gotta Move.

Yes, I know and Stu is purely perfect here. Wanted to say that he remains in his role as pianist. This is not a Chuck keyboard "stopgap" playing the riff...

An amazing live album, though Brussels Affair trumps it.

How sadistic.., no need to watch the current tour anymore. The difference it too painful to me.

GYYO v Brussels affair? That's a tough one but I reckon Brussels affair just pips it. Even so GYYO version of Little Queenie is easily the best live 12 bar rock n roll I have come across

I would choose Ya Ya's over both Brussels Affairs.

I probably would too. Although the first show has two performances that I consider to be the absolute best thing I've heard the Stones (or any band) do in Gimme Shelter and Tumbling Dice, I like the song selection on Ya-Ya's better.

I have been playing the drums to this, since it came out ! My favourite live album of all time , for sure ! Can't wait to see them live again in Montreal. Little Queenie would be amazing !

Midnight Rambler on Brussels affair is near perfection as well-but is played a tad too fast. Ditto YCAGWYW-but sax solo goes on too long. No ones perfect of course-but they get close here

Stu is amazing on it. During Little Queenie, I can't help but thing how much his playing is like Johnnie Johnson's. It's so good, I wish it was a little higher in the mix.

Have you heard GS from Philly 1972? I like the Brussels-version as well, but one guitar is a annoyingly out of tune on that one, if memory serves - or are you thinking of the official release?

I think the same thing. I play Little Queenie for people when I want to show them the best example of rock and roll ever recorded.

GYYYOs trumps Brussels for me, for a few reasons. The Sax. The Afternoon performance released rather than the evening (which I think is better), and GYYYO has that virginal resurrection feel to it. New lead guitarist. Back on the road with some of their best material that was relatively new. They then went on to create the modern rock n' roll tour. Brussels is phenomenal, but YY's has that gleam to it of perfection.

The vocal overdubs would likely be because of Keith. He rarely stepped up to the second mike and sang his backups. Which is no crime when he is concentrating on his playing as much as he was back then. The story goes that it is easier to redo all of the vocals if you're adding a Keith track than to just add him to existing Jagger vocals. I have no idea why.

The most amazing thing about ya yas is the fact that Love In Vain has no overdubs. Heard an audience boot and it was note for note identical.

Agreed. I decided to learn the guitar when I heard it. I'm still crap.

The bootleg version of Brussels affair that was floating around for years is better than the "official" version IMHO-not sure which is afternoon or night
