ROD STEWART WOULD LIKE TO REUNITE THE FACES

Now that Rod Stewart has rediscovered his songwriting muse, the rock legend is thinking about reviving another aspect of his storied past. In a new interview, Stewart said that he’s up for a long-awaited reunion of the Faces.

Speaking to the U.K. tabloid the Sun, Stewart hinted that it was being discussed, but a major scheduling conflict popped up for one of its members. “Well, we were on for it but he got nabbed back by the Rolling Stones, didn’t he?” he said. “But let them have him, because my eyes are on next year.”

Stewart, of course, is referring to his longtime partner-in-crime Ron Wood, whose departure for the Stones in 1975 helped bring about the Faces’ inevitable implosion. In 2010 and 2011, the other surviving members of the band toured as the Faces – with Mick Hucknall of Simply Red on vocals and Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols on bass for the late Ronnie Lane – but a full-fledged reunion with Stewart on vocals hasn’t happened.

Still, it’s been on Stewart’s mind for a while. He was set to perform with them at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, but a last-minute illness forced his cancellation. But it’s not just Wood’s time with the Stones that’s preventing the reunion from taking place. Stewart’s solo tour, especially with the release of ‘Time,’ means that his calendar is dance card is full for 2013.

“We’ve got the U.K. tour coming up with the residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas,” he continued. “After that then we can start thinking about the Faces. Exciting times ahead — that’s for sure.”

So, with Rod Stewart considering splitting time between his solo career and the Faces again, it seems that the 68-year old singer has – at least partially – recaptured his youth. Can a return to the days of taking cocaine anally be that far behind?

As much as I love the idea. It will never happen.

I don't see why not. The Stones could very well be "finished" after Hyde Park.

I thought that Mick Hucknall was an excellent choice to tour with the Faces. Not only does he have the vocal range, but also the passion, attitude and genuine enthusiasm for the material that Roderick can no longer muster up. I'm not sure if a Faces with Rod can possibly better that, except in audience numbers. But everyone seemed happy and relaxed onstage with the 2010 version.

I last saw Rod at Hyde Park a couple years ago. I thought that it was barely passable. Rod's voice was shot and that band of his, with their black ties and Las Vegas arrangements, was awful. The saving grace was provided by Ronnie, who joined him on stage for the usual Stay with Me and Maggie Mae. You could see Rod's eyes actually light up, and he seemed engaged for once.

Perhaps he has improved.

Based on what I have heard of him in the past few years I have to agree and I wonder if his voice is up to the task? Would love to see that tour if it ever happened but can't see Jeff Beck going along with it.

His new album is even worse than the christmas album....just commercial crap,no rock'n roll at all.
Go on tour with Bon Jovi but leave Ronnie where he is better at.

...and I want Gwen Stefani to give me a hand job, but I don't think either one are going to happen.

Ron Wood's master plan... Embrace Taylor, begin the plans for this tour with Rod at the beginning of R.S. tour, threaten to leave The Stones if Taylor gets too much stage time. Keith can not do without Wood at this point and Rod gets to rattle the Stones camp decades later. The LV's have always loved to torture one another. Taylor is left sitting on the drum riser for Tumblin' Dice. This is the way the biggest rockers have behaved for decades. Kind of makes me warm all over.
