She does have a point in that she would look VERY stupid on stage. In fact, she looked kind of stupid when she was in her prime.

Her age and appearance thing?

The poor woman had diverticulitis and was in a mediaclly induced coma from which she physically has not bounced back from. She was considarbaly more slim and fit looking prior to that. It is ok to let her self go gray if she wants.

I think she opted on being LAZY, FAT & white-haired as opposed to staying productive because THAT would take too much effort. She's envious of the bands, like the Stones, who stayed in the game. Look at Mick compared to her! She has to put down the rockers in her generation who are making the effort and doing a good job at drawing crowds, STILL, because she isn't willing to make the sacrifices that are necessary to stay on top. Sour grapes. For the record, I liked her voice back in the day. Saw the Airplane with all original members in the 70's and thought they were great.

Are you kidding me? She's in her 70's and doesn't look any worse than any other Grandmas. And she is productive, if not musically.

And Mick has one of the most obvious wigs in rock music so I wouldn't necessarily try to compare hair here.

Well like everyone else she is entiltled to her viewpoint. Some rock and rollers over 50 can cut it, like Mick, and others, like Grace, just doesn't want to or can't.

What wig?? Are we back TO THAT AGAIN, for God's SAKE, Mick has real hair! And do not say UNDER his WIG! When he runs and sweats on stage, you can see it's his own head of hair!!! Get over it!

Sure, let's all tear into a once-great singer just because she got messed up on booze and drugs for a long time.

No real reason to bash Grace Slick, especially because of her age and because she doesn't dye her hair, very superficial criticism of one of the few very good female rock stars of the sixties who helped open the doors for other female artists. ( There weren't that many back then). This is simply her opinion, whether you agree with it or not, Grace, for sure, was never one to be shy about her opinions...

Anyone who can answer, I was diagnosed with diverticulitis years ago. What caused doctors to put her into a medically induced coma?

A quick google search can explain her health issues which have left her unable to stand for more than eight minutes at a time. Why the coma specifically? I do not know but it was in the news at that time. 2006?

Some of you guys are mean. Picking on a woman's looks which are due to poor health from serious illness.

Why not pick on a chemotherapy patinet for losing her hair? Or a child with Down's Syndrome for looking funny? All becuase of a comment about Rock and Roll and age.

I was diagnosed with diverticulis decades ago & continued to work & be productive. Sounds like she has some other issues not divulged.

You might be right. I know cancer survivors and know others who died. Illness can effect people diffrently.

I once briefly stood in a Barnes & Noble flipping through her autobiography just to see what she said about sleeping with Jim Morrison, the one thing I recall being her claim that, size-wise, he was "a little above average."

I don't know, he might have a weave or extensions. I noticed on this last mini- tour his hair stayed dry and unchanged throughout the entire show. it didn't seem quite natural. With all the running around he does it starts to work up a sweat and if you have long hair that will make it matted down after a while.

Yes! (to Jefferson Starship, briefly, in the 1990's)

Grace Slick's comments could have just as easily come from John Lydon in 1977. The 60s era Stones would have mercilessly taken the piss out of their 2013 incarnation. Maybe she has a point. Old men especially can come across as looking ridiculous when they try and mimic younger people. We've all seen embarrassing "dad dancing" at a wedding reception!

I'm gonna give her a free pass just because of the soaring chorus to "Somebody To Love".

BTW, Mother's Finest does a great job with this song.

Didn't Grace do or say something to piss the Germans off a few years back?

alot better than that dan.she was a great talent love some of her stuff, just think she burnt herself out on dope and i have compassion for sick people, just think she is playing sour grapes because she did not keep herself in the shape mick did!!the stones are better than ever, anybody who saw any of the 5 live shows last year heard and saw that.would anyone tell a major leauge baseball player batting 350 to retire?why would the stones even consider it.so many people on this board ran keith into the ground,he's washed up,disinterested, posing blah blah blah, you don't hear them saying that now do you!!just think grace should stfu.

a footnote in music history.it is amusing to see that even in 2013 some havent yet realized that the entire notion of 60s rock musicians being any kind of radicals or a threat to anything of real importance was/is absolutely ridiculous.

the jefferson airplane/starship was a second tier rock band whos music ran the gamut from 60s bullshit psychedelia to 80s bullshit pop.their self importance was put in its proper place at altamont courtesy of the fist of a hells angel-"hey,man listen here you guys" BAM!!! lights out hippie

i remember seeing grace slick on an mtv special where she was asked about stevie nicks. i thought for sure she would be classy and say something nice but she just became so jealous and bitter,it was kinda sad.

one thing she did correctly though, retired.

"Today" live at the Monterey International Pop Festival in the summer of 1967. Wish it was a bit longer.

Slick's always had a problem with the age thing. I remember an interview with her back in 1981 where she was saying the same thing: "I'm getting older, the audience is getting older, nobody wants to see a 50-yeard-old do this..." Same thing when We Built This City was a a big record: "I'm old. What do I know?" Then I read an interview with her last year, I think, same thing: "I'm old. I'm old." However that song about turning 30, Lather, is a great record.
